so ds2 is 4 weeks old tomorrow.

at birth he was breast fed, and he filled his nappy at every feed. at 18 hours old i changed to Formula as i had blisters on my nipples. I used Cow and Gate to start with and it was great, he pood at every feed. But then he got constipated on the 15th and didn't poo until the 16th at midnight which was solid. So i put him onto Aptamil comfort... he was still constipated for a day or two but then he passed anormal poo so i thought woohoo. Then in the early hours of the 18th he started with diarrhea, I thought ok this might just be his tummy getting used to the milk and he Health visitor who came out on the 18th & 21st said he hadnt been on it long enough to say if its that or not. On the 22nd i called the doc out as he was having some other issues and she said he was fine but to try him with another milk as the aptamil was not agreeing with him. So off i went and bought SMA (the only milk left to try that any local shops sell) and he had 2 poos which were starting to become more solid. But then on the 24th he went back to being constipated :dohh: Since then he is acting constipated but when he finally does manage to go its very watery.

Other things he has aswell - he gets the hiccups after every feed
- for the last 5 days he has had periods of crying for no apparent reason which is strange as he doesnt normally cry unless were not quick enough with the bottle. This includes during sleeping which sometimes he wakes up and others he cries then goes back to sleep.
- he pulls his legs up when trying to poo and has to put a lot of effort into it
- he passes wind A LOT and again seems to struggle to do so
- he seems to be very unsettled between feeds and needs to be held a lot to soothe him
- He grunts a lot on his sleep
- Sometimes when he is feeding it sounds like he is chocking
- For the last 4 days he has sometimes struggled to latch onto his bottles or dummy, he cant seem to get his tongue into the right position which means he just keeps pushing it straight back out again.

any advice please.. im going to take him to the doctors but just wanted to know if any of you have any help/advice. xx

Hiya, I don't know the answer but just wanted to say my LO has been thru similar.
We started her on C&G which was fab, then we thought she was getting colicy and changed to C&G Comfort, this seemed to upset her although poo's were ok considering she was on comfort milk which makes their poo watery and greeny. So we changed her to Aptimal Comfort which upset her even more! Her poo's were horrific and I think it upset her tummy, so back we went into normal C&G. She's fine on this milk and after her belly got used to it she was a dream for 2 weeks!
That all changed last week when she started having screaming fits after at least 2 of her feeds a day and of course the dreaded 6/7 pm melt down!
I think it's just wind, she draws her knees up and fidgets and won't settle until walked about etc. it all soon ends though when she has a big burp - gripe water helps with this!
I dont think it's a milk intolerance, I think it's just her growing. Babies are never settled for long, just as u think they are established, their pattern changes. Their guys are constantly changing and their constantly growing and adjusting.
We tend to just go with the flow, seems the best way.
Our LO is quite squitty with her poo at the moment but I'm sure it will come right. I'm certainly not Guna change her milk again! It will only upset her tummy.
I suppose the only way you will know if it's milk intolerance is to get a mill free formula but that means changing milk again!

thanks hun. I am guessing im going to be told to try the special milks. I hate having to change milks. i went through all this with ds1 until the gp found the right milk he went through 3 special prescription milks to find the right one.. was hoping to avoid tht this time round :(

Aww well if your first baby was intolerant maybe your 2nd is too then?
It's a pain isn't it changing and I always feel bad for them as it must upset their tummy's each time. If only they could talk!

ds1 didnt have an intolerance hun i should have said. he had bad reflux and weight gain issues. xxx

Oh ok then. Hmm be interesting to see what Dr says then, will you come back and let me know?

I will hun. im going to try get him in tomorrow as hes now spitting up curdled milk just like ds1 did and his last nappy was slimey xx

Oh no! Thats not nice. Hope you managed to get an appointment today!

couldnt get him in today.. iv to call at 8:30am to try get an emergency appointment in the morning. Fingers crossed as hes now also come out with a rash on his face (i did the clear glass test and it dissapeared). xxx

Oh no that sounds awful. How's thing now??

hey hun sorry i forgot to update. Couldnt get him into the doctors.. they have nothing until Thursday!! The health visitor just brushed me off telling me im over paranoid!! :growlmad: I was so mad.

He had 2 good days where he was managing to goto the toilet ok... and then it went back to hard poo.. and yesterday he spent the full day screaming with only 10 minute naps which he was woken from by pain. I only managed to get him off to sleep at 9:20pm! Im going to go buy some Gripe water today I think and see if that helps now that he is old enough for it.. and if not then im going to buy some of the special milk myself and sod the gp and health visitor. Im not sitting watching him go through pain like this because someone is too stupid to listen to me x
