My 17.5 mo had scarlet fever a few weeks back. He seemed to recover after antibiotics but after a week of being well he has developed another rash (looks completely different to the scarlet fever rash he had).

He's had this new rash a few days and it's no better. I originally thought it was a heat rash as he is a hot baby and it's always really warm at his nursery but yesterday he started with congestion, cough and generally under the weather. Today he has had a temp. I've attached a pic of his rash. Do you think if looks like a standard viral rash or is it worth getting him checked out tomorrow?

The pic is of his back where the rash is worse. It is also on his tummy and legs although not as bad. His arms and face have been very flushed/red and hot today but no actual rash there.

Wish I could say- my LO had a very similar looking rash when she was about the same age- it was caused by a Virus... and nothing the docs could do, other than advise on ointment. It cleared up within a few days though- and she was fine otherwise. So many rashes look the same.

Personally I'd probably take him in- if only cause he's got a fever, and better to just have him looked at in case. Hope he's all better soon! :hugs:

Looks similar to the rash my girl had a couple of days ago. That followed a chesty cough & periods of fever. Phoned gp surgery and told them she had rash that followed her other symptoms they said to bring her straight down. Probably best to put your mind at ease x

Sorry, meant to say that they said it was viral & no treatment needed, just monitor and take her back if anything got worse x

Thanks for the replies. Took him to Drs this morning as I felt he was getting worse rather than better. By the time we got there his temp was over 40 and his heart rate was 180 so he got admitted to childrens ward at our local Hospital. He's under hourly monitoring and is very sleepy. They say it could be measles. (He has had all his immunisations though). Waiting on the Drs for an update.

Oh no. Poor kiddo! Hope he's much better soon hun :hugs:

On no hope he's better soon. X

Hope your lo is better soon x

How's he doing now. You must be exhausted with all this going on.

Oh no, hope its not measles. And hope he gets better soon :hugs:

Aiden got discharged last night. Only one Dr thought it was measles. The other Dr who he called in and the 2 medical students said it's more likely a viral illness. They managed to get his temp down which improved his breathing and heart rate enough to be disharged. He had a very unsettled night last night and has had a couple of episodes of fever today but the ibruprofen and paracetamol are keeping ontop of it. Hoping he sleeps abit better tonight as we are so exhausted. Was my last week of work this week, started maternity leave....so ready for it!! 😊

Bless him, hope he has a better night tonight and glad to hear it's not measles. Hope you manage to get some rest too. x

Hope you guys have a good night. When is your due date? It's come round so quickly!

Oh my goodness what a worry. I am glad his temp has come down. Hopefully you all got some more sleep.

Wasn't a bad night considering. A couple of wakeups during the night and wouldn't resettle after 5.30am but that's quite normal for us. He's very wheezy and mucousy this morning. Might have to get him checked out again?!

Baby is due on the 13th Jan if I make it that far 😄 Aiden was 10 days early so this one might be early too.

Hoping someone can advice as I forgot to ask the Dr. How long does a viral rash usually last? Aiden has had a virus and a viral rash on his face and body which flared up everytime he got a fever. The rash on his back (red and feels like sandpaper) has been there and not faded at all for 7days now and I'm wondering actually if this rash is an allergy rash rather than a viral rash as the rest has more or less cleared up and he's had no fever for nearly 2 days.

The one time my little boy had a viral rash (he had roseola) it appeared at the very end of the fever and then took about 4 days to completely disappear.

It took lo about 3 days to get rid of the viral rash.
glad to hear your lo is doing better x
