Another silly question

I've been breastfeeding DS for 6 weeks now (since he was about 4 days old - there were problems initially) and I haven't expressed any milk since those first few days. Now that it's been 6 weeks, I'm thinking it would be nice for OH to be able to feed him from time to time so I might express enough for one feed a day to let him try.

In two weeks, we're having a big party for DS's christening and, although he'll be with us all day, I was thinking of feeding him EBM from bottles that day for convenience.

My silly question is this: if I express enough milk over the preceding few days to cover us for the party, do I need to express regularly during the party as well? Will it affect my supply if I don't BF for 8-10 hours? Cos it kinda defeats the purpose if I have to leave the party every few hours to express - I may as well be breastfeeding!

Your supply should be able to manage it at this point but your outfit might not! You may well fill up and leak so if it we're me I'd pump once mid way to avoid engorgement and possible milky dancefloor moments......

I found while exclusively expressing, I couldn't go more than 3-4 hours without pumping. By that time, I'd feel very swollen and achy.

Based on my experience last week id either take the pump with you or just breastfeed.

I went to a wedding and built up a mini supply for my oh to give him in the morning (enough for two feeds that was it unfortunatly)

I fed Lucas at 6am then had to express at my friends at 11am I then didn't feed him again until around 4pm and by the time I got my dress and bra off there was milk everywhere, he literally had the feed of his life. I had to hold a pad over my other boob while feeding him and it was literally soaked after.

I effectively missed only two feeds before I fed him myself, anymore and I think I would of exploded !!!

I agree pump a bit if you can.... maybe bring it just in case.

Thanks girls for all your advice. On the plus side, the party's at my parents' house (where I'll be staying) so I can afford to play it by ear a little.
