Hiya everyone :hi:

my LO has been exclusively BF until now but she still feeds very often so I want to try & get her to take the odd bottle of formula (to give me a break really as ive never been able to leave her with anyone for longer than an hour or so)

I tried her tonight but she point blank refused to drink it :( so im wondering if anyone is successfully managing to do this? or if any of you used to BF how did you get your LO to accept formula when you decided to make the change? :flower: xx

Has she drunk from a bottle before? Because it may not be the formula, could be the teat... she recognises the difference between that and your nipple and so maybe doesn't realise it's food? What bottles/teats are u using? I'd recommend teats that closely simulate nipples (we use TT CTN) and have been fine feeding her expressed BM and formula x

Im also using the Tommy Tippee closer to nature bottles, she has had expressed milk from a bottle before (admittedly not for a while) so I guess the next step is to try & give her some EBM & see if she will still drink from a bottle hey?

she had a few sucks so im pretty sure she knows its milk in there but she started to spit it out & cry whilst rubbing her face into my boobs so it was pretty obvious what she was trying to tell me :haha:

did everyone elses LOs just drink formula fine??? (im using Aptamil breastmilk substitute as I thought that one would be closest?) xx

Awww bless her!!! Still sounds like she could be a bit confused because of the difference! My LO feeds daily from breast & bottle and has done from day 1 so she's pretty clued up on it now! Your LO is a lot older though so thats whats got me thinking thats the reason why  I read somewhere that if she can smell you and your BM she's less likely to take the bottle from you, so you could try getting OH or someone else to feed her with the bottle? Then she could get used to it & then take it from you x

lol yeah I tried that too...

I waited until she was definately hungry & got my DH to try & give her the bottle but she just spat it out & cried for me :dohh:

I suppose I maybe should've tried leaving the room so she couldnt see me? maybe that would've helped?

I think i'll try again tonight after our bath & get DH to offer her the bottle after he's put her pjamas on & i'll stay in the bath for a bit longer :happydance:

she usually cries for me while he is dressing her & won't settle so I have to quickly get out of the bath & im lucky if ive got time to get dried :dohh:

hopefully it will work & i'll get a nice relaxing soak for the 1st time since she was born xx

Awww bless you!! Let us know how u get on, fingers crossed she takes it!! x

:nope: it didnt work :dohh:

she has no intention of drinking it :(

im even thinking of trying it in her sippy cup as she quite happily drinks water from that xx

Ohhh no!! She obviously just really likes mummy's milk then!! I can't think of anything else for u to try hun  I'll look online tomoro morning, there must be some other things to try! x

think im gonna try giving her a drink of water out of her bottle today to see if she drinks it... if she wont drink it then maybe its just the bottle she doesnt like? so i'll try giving her some formula in her sippy cup I guess?

:haha: what a carry on hey? xx

I know hehehe stubborn little missy u have there :haha: I wonder what she'll be like as a teenager!!! x

Hi there,
I'm just starting to introduce a regular ff to my 30 week old boys daily routine, he too is a very regular bfeeder, every 2 hrs max... As i'll be going back to work in Feb we need to wean his daytime feeds to formula... hanyhoo, today I made up 7oz of follow-on milk, aptimil, and offered his the bottle before he had chance to ask for booby, It seemed to work, altho he played with the teat for a while before guzzling 5oz very quickly.
Really happy that he was satisfied with the bottle, but worried that there will be tears to come!! fingers crossed for tomorrow...
We too used the tt bottles and size 1 teats (variflow teats were too much!!)
When we've fed formula in the past he tended to be quite sick, so was please he managed to keep all the follow-on milk down, esp as it was the first time!!!

I tried again but she still refused :dohh: so ive just got some bigger teats today (6m+) to see if that makes a difference...

Ive also just discovered her 1st tooth which is making me even keener to get her onto bottles before she does any serious damage to my boobies! xx

could be the temperature of the formula? my LO spits it out if it isnt warm!

Dont think so hun? as ive offered it to her when it was warm then at various different stages as its cooled down, right up until its cold

she just isnt interested :dohh:

ive yet to try her with the new faster flow teats so i'll update once ive tried them :) xx
