Millie has been prescribed Domperidone (after me having to really push them to give her something) after Gaviscon Infant and Omeprazole haven't helped her reflux.

I'm just wondering people's experience with it. I've been told to keep her on the Gaviscon too and slowly wean her off it. Have been told to give her the Domperidone 2-3 times a day, will be giving 3 times to start with as her reflux has been very bad. She's only having 80ml at a time then refusing the rest so I've started trying to feed her every 2 hours instead of her usual 3 to make sure she gets enough. A month ago she started to do well and was taking 150ml a feed, the most she's ever had. But I'm struggling to get 100ml in her now. She's having around 600ml a day when she should be having 900.

The doc was going to put her on Ranitidine but the system wouldn't allow her because Millie is under 6 months and the senior doctor also wouldn't prescribe it.

I'm really hoping this Domperidone helps her as I'm really worried about her intake. She has had weight issues anyway so I'm worried she's lost weight this week from how bad her reflux has been. She is generally happy and bright when she isn't being sick. But she is really fussy during her feedings.

We have been weaning since 4 months, as we have been told to do by her cleft nurse as she has to be weaned before her operation next month at 6 months. I still only have her on one puree meal a day. I know she would take two meals, cause she loves it. But while her milk intake is low, I'm wary to increase her meals in fear she'll drop a bottle.

Hi, my lo was on gaviscon, ranitadine and domperidone, even then she could only feed little and often. She never took the required amount of milk, it bothered me but the hv's and her consultant said it was fine as long as she was having dairy products to eat. I would give her fruit or veg purée with 30mls of milk in just to get a little more in to her. We weaned early because of the reflux, she ended up on 3 meals per day quickly.

You could try giving a little food followed by milk, the food may help settle the acid whilst she takes the milk. I always found custard a winner.

Hope this helps xxx

I thought I couldn't give other dairy products until 6 months though?

As long as they're pasteurised, yoghurts are fine (I used the sugar free baby ones) and made custard from powder with bm or formula xx

Does anyone know if the medicine will still work if I give it to her during a feed, with her milk. It says 15-30 mins before but she absolutely hates medicine and spits most of it out. The only way I can get her to take medicine is sneaking it in her mouth with a syringe while she's feeding.

The instructions say not to mix with milk so i dont think so :( We used to syringe into the back of the cheek and then blow sharply in her face, it helps them swallow it rather than spit it out (sounds cruel i know but NICU taught us!)

Docs were awkwards to give us rantitidine and other meds and we only ended up at the kids hospial where they gave us them in the end each time

We have domperidon and ranitidine for silent reflux , neither seem to be helping my LO :(
I didn't know the domperidon was 30 mins pre feed, i syringe mine right before - the pharmacist never told me that and there was no leaflet!

Does it work right away?

She hasn't been sick much today, which is great, but her intake has decreased even further. She's struggling to even take 70ml in a feed. It's gone 4pm and she's not even had 400ml yet.

DS is on ranitidine and domperidone, has been since 8 weeks. We found the domperidone didn't do a lot without the ranitidine and now we are trying to wean him off it. We find the best and easiest way to give it is in a bottle teat. He sucks before he realises there isn't milk in it. Now that he's used to that he opens his mouth ready for it and very rarely refuses it. We also don't do it 30 minutes before a feed, he has them at the same time as his milk three times a day.

A word of warning, some reflux babies are cows milk protein intolerant (DS is) and if you give yoghurt/custart etc it will make things much worse. I'd avoid that personally.

No domperidone can take up to 14 days max. Some people get results earlier however

I'm worrying about her intake, should I only be majorly concerned if she stops having wet nappies? She seems happy apart from when she's feeding.

We have baby clinic tomorrow too.

Yes, just keep an eye on her nappies, you can't force milk into a baby who doesn't want it so try not to worry too much.

Xx

We are currently using ranitidine and domperidone together. The domperidone is quite recent but she has been on ranitidine since early on. The doses and frequencies have recently been altered as well and the current combo seems to be helping but we have also stopped doing bolus feeds and switched back to a continous pump feed as she wasnt keeping anything down. So she is getting 36 mls an hour continously fed for 18 hours a day as she is so small and needs all the help she can get to put on wieght right now.

I hadnt been told about giving the meds with a time limit before feeds as obviously the feed is on all day so she is always mid feed when i give her medications. So it obviously cant matter that much. Her care plan was written by a peadeatric consutant in charge of her care.
