Hi all,

Had a reassurance scan yesterday after some bleeding and I was 16+1.

Everything looked ok with baby and the lady was so thorough. She found a clot which is the reason for my bleed and said I could bleed again but not to panic. Feels nice just knowing the reason rather than being palmed off by the nhs which I feel I have been.

Anyway...The lady found a dark kidney shape on my ultrasound d (I'm pointing to it in the picture!) And asked if id originally been carrying twins which I said I didn't know but nothing was picked up on my 12 week scan. She then said she didn't think it was (I had to wee and she said it gave her a clearer look!) And that she thought it could be an amniotic band. She checked and there is no blood flow to it and told me not to worry as it Coul get absorbed by my 20 week scan but to mention it to them so they look properly at it.

The lady said she wasn't worried and it is posing no harm to my baby and that she didn't feel a referral was necessary.

I felt grateful coming out then stupidly Googled and now am worried. It doesn't look like an amniotic band from the pics I've seen, and it says bands have threads coming from them which wrap around the baby (hence the worry) and she was scanning for about 40 mins so assume she'd have seen anything dangerous.

I just don't get what it could be?

The white underneath is my placenta and the weird leg bit to the left of it is my baby.

She aid it was about 1cm in length so really small and obviously the pic is zoomed in, so baby has plenty of space to move and grow.

Anyone have any ideas or had anything similar? Could it be another sac?

Xx

Wow I have no idea...can you get a second opinion? Looks really strange.

No idea, sorry. If she wasnt worried you shouldnt be either though! (Easier said than done I know!)

Thanks, it's hard not to be worried, especially with issues being found with my son at his 20 week scan, it's just strange not knowing what it is and with my 20 week scan not being until the 11th it seems a long time away :( I can't keep affording to pay for private scans and that's the only way I'd be able to get a second opinion :( xxxx

Is it possible to call your dr and explain what your scan looks like and what they told you? Maybe they'd want to scan you sooner to check it out? I googled what the scan lady told you. I'd be really scared too. I've never heard of such a thing. I hope everything works out for you. I'm sure it will.

Idk how it works over there but here, if something is odd you get a free scan...and that is definitely concerning enough to get a second opinion. Your OB did not answer all your questions. I have had scans every month, first bc of a hematoma and now due to the kidney infection.

I also googled and that is downright terrifying. I would definitely be onto my gp for an earlier scan. I would probably resort to begging if need be! Even if it is nothing (which it probably is) you deserve the reassurance after being told something so concerning.

Thanks for all your replies, they've called me today and informed me that it's a clot which isn't anything to worry about but it could cause a little more bleeding but not to panic if it does and to get checked as I did after my last bleed.

So glad that it's nothing to worry about - she's also given me some info on relaxation classes which I'm going to look into to help with my horrendous anxiety issues

Xx

Glad to hear you got some reassurance LDC. Good luck for your next scan :) xx
