What are tell tale symptoms

we are switching to cow and gate infasoy as libby is always unsettled with loose stools and painful wind and always seems to randomly start screaming after a bottle. Does this sound like we are doing right thing? Hv suggested it a few weeks bk and I wasn't convinced and aptimil comfort didn't seem to be much help so we switched bk to 1 with colief Nd she seems worse x

My lo doesn't (touch wood) but I was talking to hv about it yesterday. She said they would have explosive/smelly stools probably after each feed and wind. Their skin can go a different colour after feeding, failure to thrive/weight loss and rashes.

Hmm well that doesn't sound like her, apart from explosive poo's
she is gaining weight she is just uncomfortable all the time no matter how much wind we get up x

Millie was like that, we were using ttctn bottles, when I had to stop bf I put her straight away on comfort (I'd used it years ago when it was Omneo) but she really struggled on this, very bad wind, explosive poos and we thought possibly colicky, we tried Colief, infacol, the usual suspects lol. I then switched to Dr Browns and to aptamil 1 as she would only take a few ounces per feed (she still does this) I found first few days she was still bad and I began panicking, but apparently takes a while for the comfort to leave their system fully. She is now a lot better, trialing Nuk teats at the moment and touch wood no wind yet today.

Mine is, but he was also projectile vomiting anything with dairy (breastmilk when I consumed dairy AND lactose formula). It helped for us. Give it a week and see how it goes. I'm not in the UK so I don't know about those brands.

Screaming after a bottle is a sign of reflux (or silent reflux) though!

Thanks so u think I should keep up the aptimil 1? I only switched bk yesterdays feeds but she is just worse today, iv made up cow and gate for her next feed. I'm really at a loss of what to so :(

I would recommend getting her checked for reflux or silent reflux (silent = no projectile vomiting but still lots of pain when feeding). Get seen by a pediatrician as GP's usually can't tell if a baby has silent reflux or not.

It may not be lactose intolerance at all.

Hi hun my son was lactose intolerant & from what you've said Im not sure your baby is. The GP can test easily for it from a stool sample :)

Id go and ask but try not to worry too much. My son didn't put weight on for months while we were trying to get him diagnosed and he was dehydtared. He was very poorly xx

Iv been to the go he dismissed reflux and did bugger all told me to wind her properly arsehole I could cry I just want her to be content x

I got dismissed by 4 GP's before pediatrician (#5!) believed me and gave him tons of reflux information. No coincidence - it seemed to get better overnight :dohh: Geez.

I took mine to a Children's hospital and demanded to see a pediatrician. I would suggest you do the same if you have one nearby (well, I drove 1.5hr each way!) or get a referral somehow, I'm not sure how it's done in the UK

I tried her on infant gaviscon and it didn't help As I thought reflux

I would really recommend seeing a specialist. Gaviscon doesn't really help much with reflux (in fact it's not even available here in Canada). There are special prescription medications that can be used and some babies with severe reflux require surgical correction in the esophagus. Most of us with reflux babies have been fobbed off before so you'll need to see someone with special knowledge.

I'm not convinced it's reflux to be honest it's more the painful wind she has a problem with and seems to start after feeds even tho we burp her loads x

Abi was diagnosed with lactose intollerance after suffering from bad colic, wind and severe diarrhoea after starting to supplement with formula as she wasn't gaining weight. We didn't sleep for 5 nights and went through a packet of nappies every 2 days, HV advised comfort milk which actually made her worse so we ended up at the docs who prescribed nutramigen, she was a different baby within 24 hrs. I have slight lactose intollerance, I can have dairy products but can't drink a glass of milk without a reaction. The HV thinks she's gonna grow out of it and I'm hoping she does.
Can you see a different doctor? If they think it is you can get prescription milk as I was told babies sensitive to milk can also be sensitive to soya.

Some drs are rubbish!!!! we had to get a second opinion and still then had to demand to be referred to a pedi! we were told he was lac int and put him on a special milk, he still didnt get any better so we ended up taking him to childrens hosp to see a pedi there and we were told LO also has silent acid reflux! He has to have infant gaviscon. Really there are so many babies who get misdiagnosed because drs cant be bothered to carry out proper tests to get to the route of the problem.

Im still not convinced about our LO as he has constant green poo??!!??

And our pedi told us there were no ''tests'' they could do to tell whether its def a lac int???? Still waiting on another app

Sorry girls rant over lol xxx

iv been reading up and app its quite common for young babies to have a slight intolerance till there digestive system matures i dunno pfft.. drs again monday x

SaraAbi How do you get ur LO to drink the nutramagen milk???

My LO really refuses this?

xxxx

iv give her a bottle of cow and gate infasoy at 7 and she is so settled tonight we even got smiles...coincidence :? idk :(
