I just got Joseph weighed and he's 17lb 6! He's 13 weeks. He's on the 98th percentile. The health visitor said if he went off the charts I would have to have a chat with the doctor. She wouldn't say much more just asked how much he was feeding. Has anyone's LO gone off the charts? What happens? Joseph was 9lb at birth so he's always been big. He was on the 91st percentile last time he was weighed so he's climbing up!

My LO is on the 99.6th centile. He's 7 months and last time I weighed him a few weeks ago he was just over 23lb. He's gone from 25th at birth, spent most time on 91st then gone up to 98th and now the very top. My HV said not to worry, that they mainly worry about babies loosing weight and they only seriously look at big babies after they turn 1.

Try not to worry, HVs can scare you sometimes, but you can't not feed them when they are hungry, once LO gets moving they will even out x

My LO is on the 97th percentile. At her 6 month check she weighed 20 lbs. She was 7 lb 9 at birth. I would guess she is around 22-24 lbs now.

The nurse was a total bitch and said stupid stuff like 'Oh what a huge baby! I have a 9 month old granddaughter who is half her size' blah blah blah. I almost cried. When her doctor came in, he laughed and said he wasn't concerned at all and that she was likely having a big growth spurt and would even out.

One of the babies in our baby group is a few days older than my daughter and weighs 27 lbs! She isn't fat at all, just a solid baby.

Please don't worry about it now. They will all start to even out when they start moving more. :hugs:

Here is my LO - I'm biased but she looks perfect to me.

ETA - my LO is off the chart for head size. Again the doc wasn't worried at all.

Your lo is absolutely gorgeous! Looks perfect to me! :flower:

To the OP really try not to let what the hv say worry you. Sometimes they can always find something to pick at. As long as you're happy with your lo and what he feeds, his development etc then that's all that matters cos you know your lo better than anyone. I really don't know why they scare mums so much, he's on 98th centile, so what, he's not off the charts yet so why worry you! Even if he does go off the charts it's likely he's just going through an early growth spurt and you'll most likely find it'll all even itself out over time.

I'm sure your lo is just perfect! :flower:

My LO is 4 and a half months and is about 19lbs. They don't seem worried and neither am I cos he is also 98th percentile for length and head circumference. His body is solid and hardly has any fat on it - he's even got wee pecs! :) I would say he's perfectly in proportion :)

I stopped going to hv and getting lo weighed after one got me really worried bout lo NOT gaining well and referred me to Gp. Who could not fi.d anything wrong. Following month i saw different hv who said lo was perfect and nothing to worry about and could not understand why we were sent to Gp! If you are happy with how lo is gaining growing and developing i would save yourself the worry and just see the hv for the routine checks!

My little guy is off the charts. DH worries about it, but I don't. xx

Fran was 7lbs 9oz at birth and bang on the 50th centile. By 7momths old she peaked at very slightly below the 99.6th centile line! My hv had absolutely no concerns about her weight gain and told me it would all even out once she got on the move - she was totally right. Last time I had her weighed in feb she had come down to the 98th line. In recent weeks she's really started to slim down although she's still solid.

The thing a lot of hv's fail to take into consideration is height too. Fran has constantly followed the 75th line and was slightly above it last time she was measured. So although she climbed the centile lines quite rapidly, she's actually well in proportion.

Your LO hasn't gained a massive amount of weight in relation to his birth weight and you really shouldn't worry sweetie xx

My DD is at the top of the charts for weight, height and head circumference. I'm sure she will thin out once she starts moving around. My doctor isn't worried at all, especially since she is exclusively breast fed so she shouldn't be overfeeding. She wasn't super big at birth nor are my husband or I extra big.

Arthur seems to range between the 98th and the 99.6th. Last time he was weighed, he was 15lbs 10oz, and the HV was delighted, and told me to leave it at least 2 months before getting him weighed again. Even in the red book it mentions that babies in the highest part are generally well. I'd be more concerned if they were tiny at birth, then leapt up the centiles. Sounds like your LO is doing great.

My lo is just above the 98th for weight and just below the 98th for height. She has always followed this line. She was 10lb 3oz at birth. The hv is not worried and neither am I. She is just a big girl. Infact, she had her 1 year development check today and the hv said she is doing brilliantly. Don't let the hv worry you. Some babies are just larger compared to others, it certainly doesn't mean anything is wrong.

little gracie was 9lb 8 at birth and last weigh in she was on the 98th centile not sure what it all really means tbh but i'm sure as hell not bothered :haha: i'm thinking highest too 100 is good  big, chunkers :haha: healthy babies! it all even's out at some point anyways..mine have all varied from like the 45th too 99th and there all happy healthy normal kids  x

My LO weighed 12lbs 9oz at 4 weeks old. He's not far but he is solid bless him. X

My LO's just hit the 100th centile line. She's perfectly fine, just chubby...I was the same when I was a baby and now i'm a slim adult.

Don't worry - all babies are different.

Eddy is tracking at the 99th for everything. He was last weighed at his 8 week check at 15lb7oz and was 10lb14 at birth. All his other stats follw the 99th as well so he's in proportion - just a big baby.

In my own opinion (I am not medically qualified in any way lol) it would be fair to say that all babies come in difference sizes and shapes, and they grow at different rates. I follow the doubled by 4 months, tripled by 1 year rule as a guide, but as long as my LO is happy, healthy and developing at his own pace I don't really worry about it at all.

Yes and mine was also 9lbs at birth. Gotta warn you, they don't always slow down  He's now 40lbs and the size of a 4 year old. My grocery bill is outrageous... but keep in mind, when they get taller, you often don't see the "chunk" anymore!

Here is my 'little' guy now at 26 months (over 100th percentile still). We're expecting Phillipe shortly and I'm sure he will be the same size but I won't worry about him being overweight or anything because I know he'll just get taller like his brother.

Omar was 8 lbs at birth, he was 12 lbs at 8 weeks & 17 lbs at 4 months. He was at the 95-98th percentile until he was 12 months, then his growth really slowed down. Now he's at 75th percentile for weight & 85th for height. He didn't add any weight for almost a year but he grew almost 10 cms. I'm glad he was a big baby as he's a vey picky eater, he even lost weight (1.3 kgs) in January as he was really off food & wasnt eating anything xx

I'm curious what my little man will be when we get him weighed and checked next week. He's 4 months and alreay over 20 lbs. So I'm guessing 98% or off the charts  he's a solid baby.

My lb is off the charts for weight and height and 98th for head circ. so ya hes big but hes in proportion which is the most important thing

I dont no im its just my lb but walking and pulling up ect is taking longer but i really do feel his size effects this. He can pull his body up if you hold him but so far he cant lift his head up. Also if he falls he tries to catch himself but he cant his head just over powers him :-(

I know he will get there but its like a 11 month old mind and muscle tone in a 2 year old. He struggles bless him. He cant crawl as he cant lift on his arms so he just rolls or sorta shuffles around (almost army crawling)

Anyone else???

This was him today

My little boy has sat on around the 98th centile line since birth - my problem is that is states in the red books that anything between the lines on the charts is 'normal' (whatever that means). And there is only cause for concern if baby dramatically drops or rises through centiles. It also say something along the lines that some babies may be above or below the top/low lines - but again this is not necessaily something to worry about. I asked my dr when I was there for a routine visit for my little boy what happens if he goes above the charts - and he looked at me as if to say - are you serious?! haha... he said, he's a baby, perfectly formed, eating, drinking well - no issue...

Please try not to worry - these hv's certainly know how to send us up in arms!! x
