Hi hun,

Sorry its taken me ages to reply back, i had quite a high a1c, back in july when was last tested:wacko:. It was 8.2%, and trust me when i say this im not proud of it. They put me on metformin, around that time, as they believe i may be rejecting insulin. It took a good few weeks for my body to adjust, and its has lowered my sugar levels quite abit. Im just praying, i just lowered it in time before i concevied.

Im due to see my consultant in couple of weeks, i would know more by then. Also my levels have been playing yo yo games since i found out im prego, if im totally honest they have hit the teens, quite few times, but im testing like mad, and trying every thing in power to keep them low enough, but not hypoing:dohh:.

Hi, I've been a type 1 diabetic for 19 years and am pregnant with my second child and so happy to be in the second trimester now as first was very tough with low sugar levels. I do not know what my HbA1c was before this pregnancy - I suspect it was high but it came down a lot during the first trimester and my doctors are happier now. All scans have shown that baby is doing fine.

Going low ro high occassionally is unlikely to affect anything as long as you can keep your levels as best as you can. I know with type 1 diabetics they are less strict than with gestational diabetes as it is almost impossible to get the type of levels they want the GDs to get when you are a type 1. My sugars have been as low as 0.8 this pregnany and as high as 21.0 (my insulin pen got jammed that dose) and baby is fine - despite those readings most of the time I have managed to keep them ok. Looking back on my last pregnancy it was very similar too. Its the hypos though that were most worrying as I was comatose a few times. Now just looking forward to third trimester and then the birth.

thanks girls i was worrying so much my a1c was 7.2 this is my first pregnancy so didnt know what to expect first few weeks i was high low high low hard to control i seem to have leveled off a bit having a few lows but im managing its great to have someone else to talk to that knows what im goin through

Hi girls,

I know how you all feel, i been type 1 for 27 years now, and like i mentioned before i have 3 other healthy kids:flower:. I must admit i wasnt even planing to get prego with any of my other kids. And when i did get prego, my levels were BAD!!!, I was abit of a silly diabetics, in the early days, doing all the things that i shouldnt do i did. And when i got preg, with them i had a job and an half to sort my diabetes out fast:dohh:.
I was very lucky with them all, and had 3 healthy babies, but im gonna be totally honest here, the word LUCKY!!! is the main word, as i was very very lucky. Its so important to keep those levels in the normal range as possible. Please i dont wanna scar you ladies:nope:, but its important to know the facts, with high levels it can cause heart defects, and other development problems with the baby. Thats just the start, every week you gain being prego, count it as a massive blessing, as our bodies are like working not just double effort but 3 - 4 times harder than a healthy mum.
Never mentioned this b4 on this forums or my siggy, but i had 2 miscarriages, one at 13 weeks and the other at 16 half weeks, both due to bad control of diabetes, in the early days of pregnancy:dohh:.
Sorry to put such a dampy thing to the thread, but i feel its very important we all understand, how diabetes, can effect our babies and us to, while we are prego.
Otherwise part from all that, im sure we all will have happy and healthy pregnancy, with cute little sprogs at the end of:hugs::kiss:

hey i been a type 1 for 15 years now currently 31+ with my first. 1st tri was extremely hard for me as blood sugars were all over the place but calmed down in second now in 3rd my insulin has been dramatically increased which is apparantly a good sign that the placenta is doing what it should. i was a very bad diabetic pre pregnancy as my a1c was 11.7. at 20 weeks i was retested and it was 7.4 which i was told was too good for pregnancy so was re tested again at 29 weeks and its now 6.4. as long as you can keep your bs as good as you can then you and baby should be fine. im being induced at 36 weeks aswell as my kidneys arent working very well and have got a 2 gram protein leak but t1 arent usually allowed to go over 38 weeks anyway. good luck all with your pregnancies x

when did you all have scans i had my first when i was 9 weeks now i dont have one until 15 weeks is this normal not to have a 12 week scan

i had mine at 7, 12, 22 and 28 weeks ive got my next one next friday at 32 x i think the NT scan is usually done on or around 12 to 15 weeks x

I had my first scan at 7 weeks and then not til 12 weeks and since then I have had scans every 4 weeks and will continue to do so til 32 weeks - then not too sure what will happen next as NSTs are booked but not too sure about the scans.

My insulin has also increased dramatically lately - I was at my lowest at about 12-14 weeks pregnant as I was going so seriously low that the insulin had to go down dramatically too, but now it is well above what my pre pregnancy dose was.

My first scan was at 7 weeks and 6 days, and my next one is dated for 12th week. They tend to do a dating scan first, and then every 4weekly, after that. Its strange, but my insulin has already increased, which is odd for me, as i dont need a rise untill 12th week. I guess this little one is very demanding from the start:winkwink:.
Its odd also how my levels are always crazy in the 1st trim, up and down, like a yo-yo, stresses me right out:growlmad:.

Hey girls what food is working for you girls? im found that meats and cheese, are just getting my taste buds in heaven, but there are no carbs, so my levels take a massive nose down.:dohh:

hi there xx
mind if i join u all pls??
i am a type 2 diabetic on insulin. i was put on it b/c i fell pg last oct but sadly lost in jan. and i have remained on it all the while i ttc. i was diagnosed in june 2008 but was previously on metformin for pcos and could've been masking diabetes for years. my hb1ac level is currently at 7. but the need for insulin has risen drastically since finding out i was pg. currently taking 24 units am and 34 units pm, and still not getting my levels low enough. any ideas on what else i can do to bring it down please?? xx

Tigger I had a few high levels at the beginning and then they dived - but my levels when they do drop drop very very low (that I needed paramedics a good few times and a DH to save me the rest of the time) I spent my first trimester eating very high GI foods - sweets and fruit juice and certainly a lot of carbs. It took a while after 14 weeks to sort it all out again and get used to low GI foods again and even now I am going incredibly low at times (they were 1.9 this morning) If your levels are diving then you need to eat the carbs and when they are low even higher GI foods to get them right - I found that even eating very very high GI foods (like an entire packet of sweets) did not often bring my levels up enough and that is why my insulin dropped so severely in the first trimester - maybe try decreasing your insulin if they are dropping a lot and eating the carbs.

Phoebe the amount of insulin you take doesn't really matter as long as your sugar levels are fine - the levels vary a lot from person to person so don't worry too much about how much insulin you are on. And then if your levels are high cut back on the carbs and eat low GI foods (go and look on google about low GI foods as they will give you a good wide selection - these foods tend not to raise yopur sugars as high or as quickly. The other option is to go on an even shorter acting insulin so that you have more injections per day but right before meals - this tends to give tighter control with smaller doses.

Nearly 24 weeks now. Still battling the lows and they are making me very tired. Also baby has had a growth spurt and I am feeling very heavy and exhausted and its still a long way to go. Will have to lower my morning insulin as it is always in the mornings that I am going low and it seems to fall very fast.

Hi all,
Ive been to see my OB yetsterday, and had a shock and a half, she only wants me to go on high blood pressure tablets:shrug:. I was thinking, but im only 10 weeks, and my blood pressure wasnt realy high. I normally range between 130/60 - 140/70, when checked they were only 140/68. I think shes taking it to far, i did request for her to wait, before giving me medication, but she insists thats the best way. What do you girls think?

I think that is a bit strange - while the 140 is a bit high it is usually the diastolic (lower value) that they worry about and 68 is below normal - I would think if you go on the tablets that you may land up dropping your pressure too low and then feeling light headed (and especially at this stage of pregnancy - I think I fainted at 14 weeks this time round) Is there any way to get a second opinion and can you test your blood pressure at home by yourself so that if you do start the meds you could at least show them wat is going on if you do get low blood pressure?
