Hmmm...So I've been reading a lot of stories lately about women who say they have gotten their periods and were actually pregnant? I know that there are many reasons for bleeding during pregnancy - it's actually very common during early pregnancy, and implantation is often mistaken for an early period...what I am referring to is women who BLED, not spotting, not 2 or 3 days of light blood but an actual near-like period.

Of course I know that there are many women who claim to have gotten their periods all the way through their pregnancies (and I am aware that these are not considered actual periods) but I am curious as to any people who may have experienced this?

I read about one woman who symptom-spotted, really thought she was pregnant and was disappointed when she started what she thought was AF. It lasted only 2 days so she tested several days and all BFN's. The next month AF showed up like normal and It was a full-blown period but it was a little longer than usual and she found out that she WAS pregnant...had gotten pregnant the month before?!

So I'm just wondering...and I feel ridiculous for hoping against hope that it's even possible to sill be pregnant even with AF....You see, I stopped symptom-spotting because I was completely psyching myself out each month and the let-down was too much to deal with. But this month has been SO weird for me; the night before last (AF started yesterday) I dreamt that I asked this man in my dream whether or not I was pregnant - he said "Yes, you are and the baby will be fine."? Well, like I said I started cramping yesterday and had only light bleed, (today it is MUCH heavier and normal) my lower back and nipples have been KILLING me since after OV, (also normal) but my breasts are SOOOOOOOOOOO sore deep down in the tissue and I have never had this. I am SO dizzy/light-headed and have been sleeping non-stop.

This is turning into a novel so I am going to stop now since I am getting way off track. :dohh: I just want to know if any of you have experienced this phenomena? Thanks ladies Love you lots!!! God Bless

I would like the answer to this too, seeing as i just got AF 8 days early and had a million symptoms and am now on CD2 for what i think is AF anyways

I had 2 with one pregnancy and 4 and a light one with another, i only knew about that one cos i felt movements and i got scanned and found i was 19 weeks, strangely though they stopped after i found out.

my mum had normal periods until 6 months gone on me hun! doctors say its impossible but obviously not as im here!! lol xxx

I don't really know the answer to this. I do know that I am 7 weeks pregnant and I just started to bleed today. Not heavy and not even red more like pink/ Not too much cramping. More of a little bit of a discomfort like a bladder infection. Am I miscarrying??

It's funny that you say the docs say it's impossible because I ran across LOADS of angry women who experienced this.....so obviously it's not impossible but very uncommon (I mean, I guess they're right about them not being ACTUAL periods because they're no longer releasing an egg) but several of the women also said that the docs never could explain the regular "period" thing happening althroughout the pregnancies. well...I'm glad you're here! LOL:happydance:

Hmm.. I've never been preggo but I would be willing to bet that you are fine. It is really very common to experience some type of spotting/bleeding during early pregnancy (like 54% of women do) and I've heard that miscarriages are like PAINFUL, strong cramps and heavy bleeding once you knew you were pregnant so just try to relax...easier said than done, huh? Good luck and congrats...wishing you a H&H 9 months!

Hi there, I see you're new, welcome. I'm really not the one to answer this, as I just don't know. I think it's unlikely, a lot girls on here seem to have had some bleeding during early pregnancy, but I'd suggest you start a new thread with your question so you'll get a better response! I'm sure you'll be fine though. big hugs

i would like to know the answers to this thread too, as i had af one week ago for 3 days but i really feel preggo, i tested 10dpo, 11dpo,and 12dpo but after that i never tested again, i got af two days later for 3 days wasnt as heavy as normal. now all week i have been sick and really really dizzy to the point that i am loosing my balance and stumbling.

Good luck! We NEED ANSWERS! LOL...

So check this out... I am copying some of the responses that I read about from other women...

I actually had a very heavy period my first month, right on schedule. I didn't take a HPT cause I thought I was not prego. The next cycle I missed my period, so I took a HPT and it was positive. I thought that I had gotten pregnant that cycle, but when I went in to see the OB, she said I was 9 weeks pregnant instead of the 5 weeks I had estimated. I told her about having a period and a ultrasound was done to see if the heart beat was strong. It was, and she said that everything looked great and that some women do get their periods and have no problems. Hope this helps someone. Good luck.

it is very possible. My aunt just found out she was 7 monthes preg. She didnt know because she has had a period the whole time. The way she found out is because she started lactating. It can happen.

i tookTechnically, what I and many other woman experienced is NOT a period. I had many friends tell me it was possible to have a a period for a week or two. Unfortunately, mine was 2 weeks long. But a period it was not. A period occurs when you ovulate and the egg ISN'T fertilized. Once you're pregnant, sorry, there's no more eggs coming out because your body already knows your uterus is OCCUPIED. No, it's not a PERIOD. You can experience bleeding (spotting) and in which case, if it lasts longer than a day, you should call your doctor! When I went for blood work, they discovered I was AB-, and my horomones were a-ok. So I was sent for an ultrasound. Baby heartbeat visiable and all, I didn't really care what the reason I was bleeding. The risk of misscarrage AFTER a detected beat is reduced to about 3%. They never told me why I was bleeding. I had a RhoGam shot so that my body won't form anti-bodies and attack the current or (gasp) future fetus(es). And we've been fine. Yes, you can BLEED. a home pregnancy test & it came up possitive. im 14 & i think yes you can still have a period. im pregnant & im on my period at the moment x

Well I understand that to have a technical "Period" you must ovulate -which I cant prove/disprove happened- but in my case I had bleeding that was fairly equal to my regular period for 2months -the second month being shorter than usual- before taking a test at the dr's office that came back pos after I did miss a "period". According to the nurse that gave us the good news the tests we took at home will never read pos as long as you are still having a "period". According to her, you actually need to skip a period before the at home tests will detect your baby. We confirmed the results with a sonogram and listened to the melody of our new baby's heart beat. This month I have had extremely light spotting and have an appointment with my doctor in a few days just to make sure the baby is well and growing. I was terribly afraid something was going wrong until I found this web page since I had no bleeding at all last month. Thanks to you all for letting me know how common this is. God Bless U

A "period" is technically the passing of an unfertilized egg, so you can't while pregnant. HOWEVER, you can still bleed like you are having one every month without there being anything wrong. It is due to hormones in your body. - I just wanted to add this for any one who wants to get upset because we keep using the word "PERIOD"...not because we don't understand what a period is. The term "period" can be used as a term to explain bleeding at the same time every month. And yes, there is a condition where part of the uterine lining can shed every month while pregnant called Decidual bleeding. There are also hormonal changes that can occur during the normal time for a womans period that can cause vaginal bleeding. These are women with real experiences and since they are not doctors are obviously not being "technical" with every explanation.

Wow...this is good to know. I am so sorry for your losses. How long have you been TTC for? I looked but didn't see it on your ticket. I am positive that I am def. not preggo but I just thought that it was interesting to see how many people were even after they had AF

according to my mother she had a period like flow for 5 months, steady. no, joke.. she was pregnant with my younger brother, and he was born healthy. he is now 21 years of age. so it can happen.

I bet! Have you started any fertility treatments? Seeing a specialist now? this will be our 7th month TTC...It's amazing how long that feels until I meet someone like yourself who has been TTC for 2 years. Amazing. We've only been trying for such a small time compared to that and I feel ashamed at how bitter I've let myself become sometimes. I have made a conscious decision to stop being a whiner and stop feeling so dejected every month because the odds are with us that it will happen soon (I'm 24 and OH is 34). I wish you the best...I think you are very strong and I pray that you will get your BFP soon and a H&H 9 months after.:hugs:

Hello,

I wanted to share this with you, since you are all expectant Mothers and some of you might have had the same experience and might help me put my mind at ease.

AF was due 9th Nov. but it was one day late. AF usually last 6 days (full, heavy flow) yet this time it lasted 4 days (medium flow) which has never happened to me before. Since last week I have been feeling really under the weather, very tired, moody and many time during the day I have felt lightheaded. Just this morning I took out my dog and felt very nauseated. I have trouble sleeping well at night, either due to very vivid dreams or because I sleep a few hours then I wake in the middle of night wide eyed and bushy tailed.

Has anyone else had a pregnancy were they had their period and has had the same symptoms?

I am trying to avoid testing, as we have been trying for so long that I want to avoid yet another dissapointment.

Thank you in advance for your valuable input.
