Any truth in this?

Hello everybody! :flower:

I had my 21 week check up with the midwife yesterday and she asked if my little boy has been moving and if I noticed a pattern which I have.

I read somewhere that babies in the womb follow the same sleeping and awaking pattern once they are born?
My little boy so far is active in the morning briefly, wakes at dinner time and then starts full on movements at night time!

I am a first time mom so obviously wondering if this is true or not.

My DD was very active, and when she was born the midwives and health visitors couldn't get over how bright and alert she was. She didn't sleep all day like other's newborns did. My health visitor asked if she had been as active in the womb and said she hadn't seen a baby so active in a couple of years! So there might be some truth in it! But I think the womb will be such a different environment to the real world that the baby would maybe not act the same? I'm not sure!

I've read that the sleep wake cycle in the womb can set the pattern for babies first few weeks of life but that is usually because it is what they are used to. When they are no longer being supported by the cord and need to eat their patterns should change pretty quickly.
bumblebeexo) your DD is obviously an exception for newborns but it sounds amazing to have one so alert so fast!!

It was pretty true with my first for the first couple of weeks. She was always moving around during the night in the womb, and of course when she arrived she was awake a lot during the night. However she quickly got herself into a really good sleep routine. (Lucky for me :haha:)

Mine wasn't like that. He was very active all the time and when he came out, he was a chill little thing. He moved around a lot at night too, so I worried about this, but it never happened that way with me.

I hope same rings true for my daughter. she is active at night and early morning hours.

i dnt think thts true hun they eventually figure out night an day an in womb tend be more active afternoon evening, when were not doin as much/rocking them sleep with movements. My second was active in womb an was born bright an alert but slept resonable amount but she is an active toddler. Son was active end preg but sleepy when born and slept alot when little still sleeps gd 11-13hrs now.

It definitely wasn't true with my DS :) He was very active at night in the womb, but once he was born, the exact opposite. He slept most of the night. I even had to wake him up sometimes to feed him. Freaked me out at first. I was afraid there was something wrong since he would go 4-6 hours at night without waking up.(And this was when he was just a couple weeks old!)

opps i let my son sleep through nite if he slept lol didnt wake him for feeds thought if he wants sleep ill let him. He was supposed be fed 4hr as he was just over 3kg when born. I fed him this during day but let sleep night.

Not for me! My little man was the same as yours in the womb- he came out and was totally different. The schedule changes as the months go on anyway. Once they start to take less naps, it all goes in the trash and you can forget about it ;p I just got my son down for his first nap of the day (thank god!!) fingers crossed that he sleeps a while. This preggo mommy needs some quiet bath time :3

I agree with the pp I don't think it's really true, a lot of babies are more active at night in the womb because during the day when you're up and moving around it rocks them to sleep, so at night when you are still they are more awake. Once they are born all of this drastically changes for them.

Yeah I was thinking with the womb being a different environment that it would completely change! Always like hearing from mother's who have been through it and can give me insight into it.

Aww I think you are lucky to have that! My niece developed into a really good sleeping routine where as my nephew was up every hour.

I never knew that walking about and being active rocked them to sleep until I read it on this website! Amazing. I am learning all the time. I thought I'd see what other mom's would say to this matter so thanks for your insight, much appreciated! :flower:

I am a first time mom and I would have also made this mistake!

yea he was my first, i wasnt gonna wake my second either (girl) but she tended i think wake for feeds an when she was bad with reflux at 3 months she was on stright fed time to but told them she sleeps through nite so am not wakin her for feed. If she woke then yea, she was bad for not sleeping long inday fought her sleep, hv was amased lol could tell she was tierd but nothing i did worked ie rocking in arms bouncing bouncer etc. ill probs be same with this one if wants sleep then ill let it at night. It helped mine find routine by 6wks.

Not for me :(. DD was so lazy in the womb, I didn't feel many movements really. She never wole me with her kicking like my DS did- he was awake a lot at night in the womb and sleepy in the day but when he was born he had night and day the right way round, thankfully! consoled myself that at least she would be a chilled baby and I'd get sleep. Nooope! :haah:. She was (and still is) a very poor sleeper and didn't nap longer than the odd 10 minutes until she was 5 months old. She was up every hour at night (and currently is doing the same )

My DSs pediatrician said it was ok to go as long as 5 hours between. He just didn't want him to go any longer than that. Of course it may be different with other babies. My DS had a few instances of his blood sugar dropping while we were still in the hospital, as I wasn't producing enough milk.(I was there for 4 days, as I had a C-section) That was more of what they were worried about.
