Hi,

Just wondered if there was anyone out there who's OH has had a vasectomy reversal and gone on to have a baby? Looking for some hope and encouragement if anyones been in this situation?

My story in brief - I'm 31 and my OH is 43. He has 2 girls from previous marriage who are grown up and have kids of their own (i'm a step nan nan!! ha). He had vasectomy 16 years ago and we had it reversed last November with only a slim chance of the op being successful. He went for his first SA (sperm count) in February and the results were good - pretty much back to 'normal'. We haven't yet been successful but trying all sorts to get a much long for'd baby.

Would love to hear from anyone who's had success or in a similar situation as me that we can buddy up and support each other!
x

I'm not in the same situation but I had a tubal reversal in March. I did want to share with you that a friend of mine had a tubal reversal and a month later her husband had the vas reversal. This gave them the slimest of odds. It took them about 3mo and she is now 21 or 22 weeks preggo with a baby boy. So it can happen!

You may want to look into some herbal supplements to increase his motility count. The guy I mentioned above took something for this but I don't remember what it was. Also if oh drinks redbull or any energy drink about 1/2hour before bd then it will give his swimmers extra ummph! You may also wanna just read some threads on here about what all the ladies are doing to improve their chances.

GL to you hun!!!

thanks for your message Fluterby, thats a lovely story and they are so lucky! I hope we have some luck soon, the months are flying by and it's so easy to get blue about the situation xx

My DH had his VR in March and this will be our second cycle TTC. We haven't done an SA yet but if we haven't gotten a BFP by July then we will go and have an SA done. There were mostly heads and tails and sperm with tiny tails when they scoped during the VR but the surgeon seemed said that was really good. We are 7 years post vasectomy. Let's keep each other updated on how things are going. We shall see a BFP soon!!

Hi Wispyshadow,
Nice to hear from someone in the same position as me - i was starting to think i was the only one! Apparently it takes 2 months for the swimmers to gain strength and be matured enough so fingers crossed for you that things are working away as we speak! The situation is exciting and nerve wracking all in one and i loved the feeling that at least there's a chance now that we can have a baby . . . it only takes one strong swimmer!!

Will be lovely to keep in touch with you so keep me posted as i will you! x

My DH is so funny! He read the book "What to Expect Before Your Expecting" He eats a bunch of the foods they suggest to help make strong swimmers and he drinks something with caffeine in it about 30 minutes before BD, it's supposed to make them faster..lol:) If it works great but I just find humor in the caffeine thing.
We have been contemplating getting a scope at home to look at things ourselves but I am not sure I want to do that yet. Our doc told us on average it took about 6 mths for most of his pts to conceive but some as early as the same month as the procedure...he did say that DH has to have time to produce and mature new healthy sperm. I anticipate maybe late summer to early fall. We have already started TTC actively but figured it would take a few months.
I think I may get a microscope just for curiosity sake, I have a son that I homeschool so we could use it to look at other stuff for school.

One egg and one swimmer!!!
I'm looking at getting preseed and some maca.

I was reading that it takes about 60 to 74 days to produce sperm..so if we reversed in March it will probably take 2-3 months before we even have enough swimmers to work with. I also just heard today that men can take clomid to increase sperm counts. I have started taking Maca today along with my DH. Hopefully this will get us a good SA in July unless we get a BFP before then.

I heard that too wispy, as it takes that long for them to mature. It's important that you have regular 'downloads' too as this keeps the tubes nice and open and can help prevent scar tissue building up at joins which can also be a common problem. Plus also keeps a healthy load in there at any one time so when it matters at right time of month for you, they'll be good uns and not ones past their sell by date!

I've been poorly the last week so think this month might be a right off as just haven't fancied DTD! nevermind! xx

I'm sorry you've not been feeling well.:flower:
I think I am going to go and get a CBFM today and try it out. I hate the OPK sticks I got, they are a pain and I don't think very accurate.
I started my husband taking a potent multi-vit and he takes maca root capsules. Hopefully this will grow us some healthy swimmers. :spermy: I just read somewhere else that men can take clomid to increase sperm counts. Never knew that!

I started taking Maca root powder. I have taken it for two days and I can already feel a difference. I feel fab! Maybe it's something you might want to look into. If you look on the site "Maca Magic" it has some info about it. Like where it came from and what it can do for you. I am also using a protein shake mix, the maca powder, and royal jelly. It tastes like dirt but I am calling it my fertility shake...hahaha.:haha:

Hey ladies, my DH just had his VR on June 14th :) There were no sperm found at the time of VR but lots of watery clear fluid, the doctor was very optimistic. We home scoped last night at 2 weeks post op and just saw sperm parts, tails and some heads and a couple of dead ones. I was really hoping to see swimmers but I guess it's a bit early!

mommyluvin: Thats great you have parts now, that means his body is producing again.
Is you DH taking any supplements? Our surgeon suggested FertilityBlend vitamins. I found some reproductive vitimins for men at the health food store and have my husband taking those and maca root and vitamin C. Hoping that it boosts up the swimmers.

We just had an SA done and the count was good but our motility is only at 2% not good but at least it is something to work with.
If we aren't preggers by Oct then the Dr wants us to do another SA.

Hi, I'm in the same boat (well simular). My OH had a vasectomy 7 years ago, we are waiting for an appointment for a reversal. I am tired of waiting!!!

were in the same postion too.. dh had vas 4 yrs ago we are booked in for the 22nd oct this yr for the vas rev our consultant gave us the percentages of 90% success and 79% pregnancy chance so really optimistic now :) will try out some of the herbal supplements mentioned above too x

Hi, i just wanted to share a positive story with you. My partner had a vasectomy reversal in may this year. i am now 10 weeks pregnant.

We waited until september to get his SA results. he had 30million sperm and 70% mobility.

it can work out.
