Any1 put baby rice/porridge in bottle, If so how much ??

Im sorry but if this is the advice given by your gp,s/he needs to go for some retraining!

Maybe my GP has alot less experience than you all. Ill have to go tell him that the advice she gave me is totally wrong. Thank you all so much for sharing your expert knowledge with me :flower:

GPs are so called because they are general practitioners, meaning they study a little in each area of medicine and don't specialise in anything particular, so they are not paediatricians; a lot of the older ones were trained years ago and have not had their training updated either. I'm sure if your baby choked due to the advice they have given you (which goes completely against NHS guidelines as well) they would be denying they ever said it.

The fact that people hide that they do this says alot to me....

Exactly if they thought it was ok they wouldn't be PM'ing about it. 'Other mums' do a lot of things; doesn't mean that they are a safe or wise thing to do. If you wanted to find out the 'best' way to potentially choke your baby by putting rice in their bottle there is plenty of 'advice' elsewhere online about it; but it seems mums who do this and/or wean months earlier than the youngest age medically advised are looking for either approval or notoreity and seem to be disappointed when they don't get either...:dohh:

Actually my GP is a fully trained paediatrician. I wouldn't have bothered going to her if she wasn't. She's helped me alot with LO's reflux.

If your LO has reflux then there may be a reason to do this under medical supervision but again like many other posters of the same ilk you're making out you're doing it for the hell of it seemingly just to get a reaction; you certainly didn't mention reflux before; although even if your GP is a paediatrician maybe they are not aware of new products out there such as infant gaviscon and staydown formula? GPs nor paediatricians are infallible; on another thread a lady has been told to give her 3 month old squash (the drink, not the veg) to help him poo more often; even though he is pooing at a totally normal frequency and even if not there are better things to give than squash. Sometimes medical professionals can lack basic common sense and go against guidelines. I still think if something happened because of putting rice in your baby's bottle; your GP would look the other way.

I don't like it when people ask a question, then get shitty when they don't get the response they were hoping for. People are only trying to help, there's no need to be rude - nobody was rude to you. If your doctor reccomended putting rice in the bottle, why didn't they tell you how much to put in? Surely if that was the case they'd know far more than us untrained mortals...

...or make out some random person/something they read online/their mum told them to do it and then say actually it was my GP/HV and they know much better than you.

I am SO SORRY. Next time i post ill expain my life story for you all to read THEN ask my question. I don't like it when i get an answer to a question i didn't ask. Oh i must have just read it somewhere because it's different advice than youv'e had.

She did tell me to feed it from a spoon, thats the whole point of my question. Use your common sense. I wanted to know if anyone has tried it in the bottle.

I don't appreciate being put accross as a bad mother because i have made different choices than you all. I didn't ask for anyones opinions or a guessing game as to where i got my advice from. So would you kindly **** off with your patronising posts, if you don't have an answer for me.

I came on here to ask a question and get a answer. Not to get jumped on and accused of not caring about what damage i might do to LO and so on.....

You are not me and your LO's are not my LO so if you would all kindly stick to answering my question IF you have any experience. I'm getting a bit sick of people who think they are experts and can push other people around :growlmad:

No, nobody was being rude, just taking the mick in a sarcastic and patronising way!

Aha so it was your idea to put it in the bottle, thought so, stop slandering your GP over it then. I don't think your GP would like to know that their patients are out there lying about what they are advising people, and claiming they are advising them to do something potentially dangerous. If your GP advised you to give it by spoon why are you ignoring their professional advice, seeing how you value the advice of medical professionals so much; and doing exactly what isn't advised? For your convenience? There is certainly no medical benefit (for reflux) when it comes to putting the cereal in a bottle as opposed to spoon feeding it; and if you want to thicken feeds then there are specialist products and milks for that purpose. No-one is saying post your entire backstory but it does appear the majority of your threads these days are along these lines of should I give my baby babyrice/juice/put babyrice in a bottle; and if you ask about putting cereal in your baby's bottle when that is not advised by medical professionals surely then you can expect people to point that out especially if you post on two different sections of the forum. There have been several other similar threads recently and they have all gone the same way.

Does it need to be pointed out multiple times. Like i said i didn't want a debate. When did i say my GP said put it in the bottle. My GP said it's ok to give baby rice. Anyway if your all that bored ill leave you all to your witch hunt. Ive got the advice i needed so enjoy slagging everyone who does different then you off. ENJOY :flower:

After people advised you not to put it in the bottle (they were not saying about giving baby rice by spoon at your LOs age but putting it in the bottle specifically) you wrote the following

Maybe my GP has alot less experience than you all. Ill have to go tell him that the advice she gave me is totally wrong. Thank you all so much for sharing your expert knowledge with me

Any sane person would glean from this that your GP told you to put it in the bottle; you then gave several other replies along the same lines never once correcting the assumption that you were not talking about putting it in the bottle at all. I can't be bothered to argue but the facts are there for all to see.

I was indeed being sarcastic, and I'm sorry if I upset you. :flower: You have been rather sarcastic yourself though. I only felt compelled to comment that way because I read through all the other replies, on the FF section and it was much the same - I felt you were attacking people who didn't agree with you. I agree you didn't ask for the debate, but people are only warning you in case you didn't know. Sure, some people put rice in bottles, but that doesn't mean it's safe. If it's a reflux thing then carobel is a good feed thickener that's absolutely safe to put in bottles. If it's because LO is hungry, you could try hungry baby milk or feed rice off a spoon if that's what your dr has advised. I'm certainly no expert in anything, and I ain't into witch hunting...

I think the OP should read up on the dangers of putting baby rice in a bottle. Is it so much of a hassle for you to give it on a spoon?!

Babies are hard work you know. Sometimes I wonder about people, I really do :dohh:

ETA: you can't hide behind the reasoning 'some people do it so it's ok' I wonder how the justice system would be if that was a valid defence ha.

To the OP I'd ask your GP why she didn't advise you to put the cereal in the bottle; and to feed it by spoon? Perhaps she can shed light on matters. After that if you're still so insistent on giving it by bottle why not try this product

https://www.boots.com/en/Nuby-Natur... Base-_---_-Nuby Natural Touch Squeeze Feeder

its like a bottle but with a spoon end; I am genuinely not being sarcastic by suggesting this, just it is something you could use that you know is safe but is like a bottle also.

You asked whether anyone had put rice into their LO's bottles. Most people said no and gave valid reasons why not. Just because that doesn't fit with what you want to do, doesn't mean the advice is wrong.

And no-one expects you to give your entire back story, but some background info never hurts and can actually help people give you more detailed answers.

As I said in my answer on this thread in the formula section, solids aren't recommended under 17wks unless advised by a medical professional - this is what you are now telling us has happened but your original post never stated this so of course people are going to advise you that it might not be wise.

No-one is accusing you of being a bad mother, we are just sharing the information we have been told to help you make a balanced decision.

I hope that whatever you try works and you get the results you are after.

i put half a teaspoon in isobelles morning bottle and gave a good shake.

she was fine..

xx
