Hey hun

We have also been trying for 25 months... spooky!
I'm okay but DH has low sperm count... it's going up but taking it's time.
Are you in the UK? Has your FS said what to expect?
If i can answer any of your questions just shout xx

We're in the same boat, everything seems fine with me but DH has low count and high percentage of abnormals (only 2% normal). We've been told there's almost no hope of concieving naturally but we're hoping to start ICSI in January and have been told the chances are very good.

Good luck!

you 25mths too...thats weird, yeah im in the uk-manchester. I had several appointments, my bfriend is going to c a male specialist as my hsptl only deals with females 30th nov...cant wait!! Hoping it gets delt with quickly frm there... How long did it take u of hsptl appointments to get to planning ivf? Did they suggest trying anyother methods 1st? I am already on clomid *will try anything right now* good luck to you...x

hi lee, is that where they inject sperm in to an egg? Hav u had any previous treatments? My db has 15% normal only 9% prrogression an thats with 5days abstinance!! We are normally at it every to every other day esp round of as we tried waiting days b4 but at 1st we missed ov, an wen we did get it on time, it didnt help us either...so quantity we are going for!! He not goin to get me pg by keeping it in his pants...hehe.. Good luck in jan x

Hey Bay

Sorry - i'm night duty so replied then passed out for 8 hours!

Well we had 1 milion sperm in August 2008 and DH was on some prescription meds. He came off them straight away and we had another SA in Jan which went up to 8 million, July showed 16 million and he can do another one whenever we want but we keep :sex: ha ha ha DH did the lifestyle changes, no hot baths, weightloss, cut down on alcohol etc. He also started taking 1000mg of vit c, Maca which week got off the internet at healthy direct and he also takes Wellman - since then he has above average morphology and motility so it's literally just the count that's letting us down.

Time wise...
Oct 08 referral by GP
Nov 08 appt with FS
Feb 09 follow up appt - put on IVF/ICSI waiting list 12 months long
Sep 09 told funding was through and i needed repeat bloods/HIV to get started
Dec 09 appt for planning and get our start dates.
Girl at my clinic had her appt this week and everyone is starting Feb 10 on the pill so completion of cycle should be around April time.
We get 1 free go so if it doesn't work it'll be paying from then on and short protocol probably!!

I'm a firm believer that ttc naturally could still happen!!

So how bad was your OHs count etc?xx

Hi

We had low count and poor morphology, nothign seemed to be wrong with me. Vits and lifestyle changes didn't make much of a difference with us, but I know others have had great success. Had first ICSI (IVF with sperm injected into egg) in Sept and so so so lucky to get bfp!!

Good luck!

Kath xx

Hi - My DH has low motility (only 10%) and numbers just over 20m, so there's not enough swimmers to get me pregnant at the moment. He's been on Fertilaid for about a month and going for weekly acupuncture too, so fingers crossed we'll get a BFP before IVF, but to be honest I'm realistic and am trying to mentally prepare for the IVF now...We have our first IVF planning appt on 7th dec.
Mrs G - So happy for you. I always feel so much more positive when hearing stories like yours.
PS - Think I'm ok, but not had tubes checked as doc doesn't think necessary. If next SA comes back better gonna bring this up as want to know.
Good luck to everyone! We really need some more male factor success stories.xx

Hiya,

We're MF too, and have been trying for 17 months now.

April 09 - first SA - too low to count
May 09 - second SA - < 1million/ml, referred to urologist.
Aug 09 - urologist appointment - chromosome test on bloods and scan on testes. Third SA - 1 million/ml
Nov 09 - follow up urologist appointment - referrel for IVF/ICSI once my CD21 and scan is done. :happydance:

We've been told that with the numbers, getting pregnant is not IMPOSSIBLE, but out of 100 couples, 2 or 3 might fall pregnant in 2 or 3 years of trying. So with those figures, it's best to go for assisted conception. I'm too impatient, and the odds are really against us.

Good luck for all those with MF!

wow kath well done congrats to you both...im sure its well deserved. We need ppl like u to gv us hope. Thanks. My db results 15%nrmal 9%progresion, 58% immotile...but he had 17mil as over all count an that was with 4 or 5 days no sex...so prob alot less realistically, we tried 'saving' sperm by waiting and tryed being at 'it' all the time...neither has worked, he on vit e an zinc as doc recommeneded, gud luck to you who havivf planning or are starting soon...keep me informed so i can knw what to expect...will still keep ttc just would like a back up plan in place. We obv need help, my db has never concieved, at 37 we hopin to b parents b4 he hits 40...lots of luck girls...positive thinking and preying 4our bfp's asap...x x

hi pear tree thank u for ur info, helps put a time scale in my mind...we had it op way, i had my tests they ok, he had 2sa's so we waitin on mf dr...let me knw how u get on, good luck x x

Hi,

Yes, ICSI is the same procedure as IVF but they inject the sperm into the egg rather than just mix them up and hope for the best! We weren't offered IUI or anything else - I think they just assumed it would be a waste of time as DH's normal count was so low.

We are in the same position too. Hubby has very low count, the consultant told us to go for the ICSI, dont hang around trying vitamins etc as not likely to work anyway. Dont know when we're gonna start ours tho.

thanks + good luck...hope our dr says the same, i just hope we dont hav to try everythin an wait to hav ivf, as i also think iui mayb pointless for us too. X

Aphrodite i would definitely still try the vitamins depending on the reason for the low count - in the time we've been on the NHS waiting list DH's sperm count has doubled twice and is close to 'normal' levels now - plus his motility and morphology is above average. Good luck!

I think they like to see an average of 50% motility so i know its lower than average but its still possible huni.. My OH is the same think we had about 30% and then the other test we had about 39% and the consultant told us they like to see a total of progression of 50% but they say its not impossible to get pregnant with the results we had..Sometimes it can just vary from test to test, was it a first test? I would defo re test after taking some healthy tablets and then see what the results are there!

I got OH on wellman new conception tablets get them off the net, might be worth trying these huni, suppose to increase motility and maybe next time do the sperm test on 4 days and see if this makes a difference, i personally think 5 days is too long, we did the second one on 2days and i think this is why we got lower results as the first test was on 3 days and we had better results

SO keep trying huni xxxx

hi beauty, he has had two tests, the 2nd one we didnt wait as long an results were lower still! So i cant imagine the numbers wen we are at it everyday or everyother day...the dr sed they wanted a min of 25%progression, so the 50%must b an average num. Thank you several ppl recomendedd wellmans, an concieve plus, im off to boots at the weekend...hehe. Good luck x x

They want 50% in total its given on the report its like A (mean good progression i think) + B (progression i think) i think and they say they like to see A+B = 50% maybe after trying the wellman the mobility might increase worth a try huni.. :)

Wellman do a tablet now called wellman conception, i looked in boots for this but couldnt get it as its really new, so if u go on the wellman site website and order direct from there your get it direct think it bit more expensive think it about £9 for month supply rather than £7 but its designed for sperm mobility and increase sperm numbers etc and it tells you about the product so its good for a read..

xx

il hav to get ordering sum...get excited wen i hear good reports on things i can try... Wont do any harm trying...thank you for all ur advice. Good luck to you all x x

I don't know if we constitute a success story considering we don't have a baby and will actually have to go ahead and have more ICSI  but in as far as sperm counts go, we had zero on two counts and still got pregnant a few times! So it's not all about the SA, keep on trying!
