My first baby took 4 hours start to finish and my second 35 minutes. We just made it in time with the second baby!

This time where we live is 45 minutes across the busy city centre to get to hospital. Not sure how I'm going to make it, as I just go into full blown labour with no early labour. Quite anxious.

Anyone else had quite fast labours-what did you do about getting to hospital in time? Are you worried the baby won't wait for you to arrive with this baby?

Hi yes I did and I'm very worried about this time (3rd baby). My 1st I think was around 4 hours and my 2nd I went into hospital around 7pm and he was born at 7.45pm (very similar to you). This time I'm worried about making it but we only live 10/15 min drive from our local hospital. I also slightly more worried this time as we will need someone to get here to look after boys as well. Xx

oh gosh this worries me. I was in labor 7 hrs with dd, Im hoping my second isn't as quick as you have said happened for you as I have an hour to wait for someone to be with lo (even if she and dh just go and drop me off its at half an hour to hospital and that's if it re opens for births if not will be longer)

i'm worried too- my first was five hours and they wouldnt even check me at first and was trying to send me home rolling their eyes at the first time mum making a scene haa! baby arrived shortly after!

this time we will need to arrange for someone to have DD which is hard as we don't really have anybody... i keep saying i bet i end up in hospital having him alone! i'm joking but i'm actually pretty scared it's going to happen :haha:

My labours were all quick and that's part of the reason why a home birth is more appealing to me. I should have had one with my son but my waters broke and nothing happened, so 24 hours later I need inducing.

My hospital is currently building a new birthing centre next to the delivery suite (which will be ready in the next couple of months) and it does sound tempting, but I really don't know if I'll get there in time.

I know-the gettibg someone to look after the kids in time concerns me too. No one within immediate reach to just come over.

Looks like I might have to have a home birth, but even then I worry the midwives won't arrive in time or something could go wrong

My first delivery was a scheduled induction and I was ready to push within 5 hours of being given Pitocin. 7 minutes later and my son was born.

With DD, I noticed my first contraction at 5:30AM and just proceeded to make the final touches to her nursery throughout my early labor. The contractions were never unbearable, so I figured I had all of the time in the world. By 7:30 I went to the restroom and when I wiped, there was red blood on the toilet paper, so I knew it was getting close.

I live half an hour from the hospital, so my DH came home from work around 8:35 and we loaded up to head out. We arrived at 9:05 and DD was born just 20 minutes later. :giggle: I barely had time to change into a hospital gown before she was crowning.

Truthfully, I wouldn't do a thing different next time around. It was so peaceful laboring in my own home. The only reason I choose not to homebirth is because I absolutely ADORE my OB. He's amazing and cannot imagine anyone else delivering my children.

I'm having same issue, my family is just over an hour away and I may well end up on own as they keep saying oh if we are at work it will be difficult, if its in the night it will be difficult, if its in the day its difficult, if you go to that hospital its difficult, we don't want to look after her at yours and oh apparently they cant just call in sick for one day ahhhhh!!!! apparently I am being difficult lol, all this and its the only time I have asked for help with child care, I know for a fact if I give birth on Thursday or Friday it will be on my own, all this with the panic there is a chance I will have a quick birth this time. I am considering home birth but just worries me if something goes wrong we arnt close to hospital

My first I was induced, and was on pitocin (sp?). I went in at noon, they put me on pitocin by 12:30, broke my water by 1, and I had him by 6:15 same afternoon.

Not even sure what to think or plan with this one because I could have the same thing happen. Needing to be induced and not feeling any contractions until after they broke my water. But I'm scared it could happen while I'm down in another town/city for work (I have a 45 min commute), and while they have hospital in the city I work that affiliated with the hospital I go to now, I'd rather have my actual doctor.

I'm very worried about this. I went to bed at 11pm with nothing and woke at 12 and 1am with pains, but was able to get back to sleep. I woke again at 3am and gave birth at the hospital (just) at 5.37am, but I had the urge to push quite a while before, but resisted because I assumed I wasnt really ready. I'm nervous because my DH works over an hour away and parking/traffic around the hospital is a nightmare at times. I dont want a home birth so I guess I'm going to have to react at the first twinge and hope for the best. I'm worried I wont find someone to care for my toddler while it happens!

Do you think we could call for ambulances ladies? I mean, if it's likely to be the obly way you can get to hospital in time, surely it would be ok?

I also don't really want a home birth.

If its the only way to get to hospital in time I am sure they cant complain, I am not sure how much of a priority pregnant woman are though. I so hope the local birthing centre re opens here as there is less traffic to get there and no problems parking. The car park at hospital I will get offered other wise every time I have been for a scan there it has taken us 20 minutes plus to find a car park space, added to which the 30 minutes if lucky drive (if rush hour no hope) and then add the fact I have to wait for someone to be with lo unless dh just drops me off.

Dd1 was born not breathing and blue and floppy , so there's no way I want a home birth. She was fine after been given air, but I think it adds to my stress.

Parking is a nightmare at hospitals and it's the last thing you have time to do is search for a parking space :dohh:

my dd needed some oxygen when she was born so I am nervous for same reason, I just worry if something goes wrong we are no where near hospital.

With dd I arrived at hospital at 9.45 and she was born at 10.00! I only live a few minutes from hospital so will hopefully be ok but my family live a little bit further away so hoping they make it in time to watch the other kids is what's worrying me. Plus dd was 6 days early so this one might be early too?

Could be early too. Can only speak from personal experience, but both dd1 and dd2 were exactly 6 days late.
Now that's super fast! I bet you were in shock. Glad hospital is near for you.

Yeah I got woken up about 6am with tightenings but managed to get back to sleep for a while longer and when I got up I was just walking around to ease the pain of the contractions so think that helped speed it up. My husband was in total shock! Lol she was about three hours old and he was still saying 'I just can't believe she's here' :)

Funnily enough my midwife warned me that with this baby I might have a quick labour. I didn't have anywhere near as fast as you ladies as my labour was 12hrs from 1st contraction to needing to push (including a drive to hospital where my contractions eased off for an hour) and in the end it was much longer because of complications, but its the speed I went from 5cm-10cm that made my mw comment. I did that in 3hrs last time which she thought was fast with a back to back baby. With a bit of luck I'll go in to labour at night again, so I don't need to worry about OH commuting and then us having to drive in traffic. My mw has made me think about not delaying calling OH home though.

Oh and pp who commented about the birthing centre - do it! It was such a great experience, and when things didnt go right for me we were transferred no problem.

I had a 7 hour labour and am hoping for a home birth as I was only at the hospital for 2 hours. I think the next one will be quicker so I'm just a bit nervous. If anything was wrong the hospital is 15 mins away.

Yoyo will they allow you a home birth with all your complications?!
