My specialist wants to do an hsg next cycle. And I'm really nervous about it for a few reasons...I've read that is can REALLY hurt although my dr says "discomfort" (yeah, sure - LOL!) and I'm also worried about the results. If anyone has had this procedure done, I would really appreciate you sharing your experience!!! :flower:

The reason for the hsg is still no bfp after a few rounds of clomid (dr wondering if there is a blockage) and also because I have spotting before af starts even though my progesterone is great. So dr is thinking maybe a polyp or fibroid

i also have spotting before af!
and my progesterone is great!
i did the hsg my tubes are clear and no polyp besides the polyp would show on a simple ultrasound i bet that you dont have anything and everything is well!especially if your cycles are regular...has your husband been checked?
about my hsg experience it was not good they told me to take 2 painkillers 1 hour before the hsg but due to some problem i got in 3 hours later so the painkillers didnt really work...this liquid was pushing inside like burning and it felt like i was giving birth!its like af cramps but BIGGER if i knew what i would go through i would have taken some more lol

I can tell you it hurt like nothing I have ever felt before. However, the painful part was very quick and the pain went away a few short minutes after the procedure. I would not want to do it again but would if I needed to. I definitely say you should do it.

I had one years ago..I think maybe 12 years. It didn't hurt me at all and my tubes were clear

I had one in 2011, I didnt think is was bad at all. Felt similar to a pap smear.

I had one in..i believe 2010. It doesnt hurt, kind of uncomfortable., however, both my tubes were clear. I'm not sure if it makes a difference if they are blocked or clear as to pain wise :) Good luck!

or each person has another level of pain tolerance!

My dr did one before they even put me on Clomid. I took the painkillers and started antibiotics the morning before I went. Antibiotics made me throw up, so I'm sure I had no painkillers left in me, and it didn't hurt at all. A little awkward and uncomfortable, but nothing to worry about. And the whole thing is over in a couple minutes.

I was SO nervous for mine and was told it could take up to 15 mins but it was fine, just a bit of discomfort and was over so fast, a few mins. All the staff were so nice and I had one nurse by my head to look after me! Good luck.

Thank you everyone! :hugs: All of your replies have helped :) Today is the big day for the hsg. I'm really looking forward to it being over. Trying to be optimistic that it won't be too bad, but I'll be prepared that it could hurt too. Here's hoping all tubes are clear!!

Hubby has been checked and is good to go! He was very proud of that :haha: My cycles are regular now because of the clomid (thankfully!). I'm feeling better about the whole thing today - and today is the day I have the procedure done. I think it has just been a lot of disappointment lately with the ttc process and it would be another setback if something is found in the hsg. But I'd rather know now than wait any longer. Thank you for your optimism that everything is fine! :hugs:

I've had 3 hsg's and a abdominal myomectomy with a vertical incision. It's uncomfortable but I was never in pain to a point where I felt like I needed ibuprofen or anything. Just try to relax and it might help you conceive. You will feel a little crampy and light bleeding.

its ok, ur probably fine , the deal is if there is blockage it might hurt a bit and if its clear then it shouldnt hurt.

I had the procedure yesterday and it was ok! No blockages and it felt like a really nasty pap smear! Not pleasant, but didnt last long. Still a bit sore today, but dr said thats normal - I have a tilted uterus so dr had to do some twisting to get the dye to flow.

Thank you for your support!!!!
