Anyone have experience with thrush/yeast infection nappy rashes?

I am fighting yeast rash with my 8 week old DS. We were prescribed Nystatin cream and use it 4x a day. I'm hoping it works! I am trying to change him more frequently I also miss his cloth diapers; I hate buying disposables.

Are you breastfeeding him? Could you be passing him yeast? I am being treated as well.

Yeah these second rashes look different to the first. Its the first time ive seen white spots, and the rash is a bit more concentrated in one area rather than bit spots dotted about! I am going to docs today to get a cream hopefully. I am also going to try and change my diet by cutting out yeast and sugar as my hv said they can have yeast in their gut which can then cause it on their bum x

I found for really bad episodes we needed a cream with a combination of anti-fungal, steroid and antibiotic.

I would suggest that you make sure his skin is bone dry before you put any cream on him (so as not to trap moisture under a layer of cream).

I'd also only use the barrier cream on areas NOT yet affected by thrush incase it contains any ingredients that could stop the prescribed cream from working and if you can face it try to abandon nappies for entire days on end.

As odd as it sounds I'd also avoid washing him too well. Thrush is usually kept in check by other organisms/bacteria we have on our skin and in our guts/vaginas etc. but if you wash these off then yeast can flourish. Obviously poo can get in to spots and infect them so that needs cleaning, but any other baths etc should be avoided and hourly nappy changes don't need excessive wiping - just keep him dry, not washed...if that makes sense.

There doesn't seem to be any new spots this morning which is good. I'm just a bit confused at how some spots have disappeared completely whilst new ones have cropped up? It doesn't make sense to me. xx

We're back from the docs and he has given us a anti fungal cream with a steroid in. Hopefully it'll clear up now. He said that we all have thrush but sometimes theres an imbalance which causes it to inflame. I am going to do as pp says and just leave her nappy off as to keep it dry x

Ah that's good. My DS doesn't seem to have any new spots. It's been over a week now and all the original spots are completely gone, just the new ones that appeared this week are still hanging around!

I'm going to use the anti-fungal over the weekend then hopefully it'll be nearly gone by Monday, if not another trip to the doctors lol. xx

I am trying extra virgin coconut oil today. It seems a lot of people have had success with it. I am also blow drying his bum completely before I put the medicine or oil on him. His rash is a lot less red tonight , but it's too early to tell either way...

the spots were healing, stopped using the cream and now it's flared up again :(

this time it looks a little different though, spots are smaller but there's more of them.

Just going to persevere and keep using caneston and not stop using it for at least a few weeks after it's gone. xx

My midwife said thrush is persistent and to just keep using cream for ages after its gone..... The rash has gone from her bum now but now ive. Got it on my nipples really bad that im on drugs and cream. She and my son have it in their mouths, goodness knows how my son got it! My oh also reckons he has it on his willy :dohh: no idea how hes got it either, ive not been near him! The midwife said to use seperate towels and stuff though!

ugh thrush is so horrible!

it def is thrush this time though, there's much more of it and it's in all his creases :( He has spots on his bum too though and they look so much like pictures i have seen of focculitis (i have no idea how to spell it!) so I might go to the gp to enquire about that.

He's also got little spots on his face too! On his cheeks and round his mouth. I googled this and it doesn't seem to be a symptom of oral thrush. i think it's wet/dribble spots or maybe baby acne. I might ask about those too... xx

Try and gey the cream with the steroid. It cleared up so quickly on her bum :)
