hellooo , im not techinally supposed to be here for another 5 days lol, but just wonderd if anyone had experienced a placenta being this close to birth canal? i had a scan because of bleeding at 25 plus 4 days, and this is how close it was to the cervix. i new i had a low placenta before, i dont actually think its moved up at all yet, but i have another scan at 32 weeks to check.

xx

Mine was partially covering at 20 weeks so I was convinced I would have to have another section as I had complete placenta praevia with my son!! But by my 28 week scan it had moved 7cm out of the way so I can now try for a VBAC!!

I think the majority move by 34 weeks hun, so try not to worry xx

thanks for responding :)

is a low lying placenta different to placenta previa? im so confused lol x

No its the sme thing hun!!

Placenta praevia has four grades:

Grade 1 - when placenta is in lower segment but not touching cervix
Grade 2 - Placenta reaches cervix but doesn't cover it
Grade 3 - Covers part of the cervix
Grade 4 - Completely covers cervix

I had Grade 4 with my first son and then grade 3 this time at 20 weeks, which had moved completely by 28 weeks!!

Sounds like you have Grade 1, fingers crossed it moves hun xx

Thankyou! can grade 1 cause bleeding or is it likely i bled from the graze on my cervix they found? they didnt even give me an answer! xx

Mine was 1cm away at 28 week scan and only 1.5cm at 34 weeks, so C section was mentioned as apparently this is the time when most should have moved... had a re scan at 37 weeks and it had moved 'by miles' according to the sonographer.. so they do move later - even up to due date.

I never had any bleeding with mine, although apparently bleeding is more common from 37 weeks on? Does it not say in your notes where the bleed was from hon?
xx

thankyou, i really hope it moves up because im scared to death the bleeding was from that. but they didnt mention anything about it, they just said yeah its low you will be rescanned at 32 weeks. and other midwifes spoke to me about it coming from the graze on my cervix, which i think is an erosion. so i wasnt sure, my notes just say, admitted for vaginal bleed, monitored and no further bleeding. im going to make an appointment with my midwife on monday and ask some questions i think! xx

It can cause bleeding hun, but sounds to me more like your cervical erosion (but then again I'm no doctor)!!

With my first son I had a few weeks bleeding very early on then nothing til I went into labour two days before my planned section!! However, this was blood from behind the placenta and nothing too serious but ended up with my section early!!

This time I had huge bleeding from 7 - 14 weeks from a subchorionic heamorhage (where part of the placenta doesn't attach properly) but nothing since!!

Unfortunately a lot of the time they don't actually know where exactly the bleeding is from, so may not really be sure!! Just make sure you go straight in if you have any more, best to be safe hun xx

Did they offer you advice about how to manage having a low placenta? I was told to take things easy basically and also we were told not to have sex at all... I was also given the number for labour and delivery and told to phone straight away if I had a bright red bleed. Definitley chat to your midwife about it, I am sure you will be fine.. I was told it only had to move 2.5 cm from OS (cervical entrance) for it to be fine, so you arent that far away and have time on your side x

I had a bleed at 25+6 weeks then one at 26 +1 i had a scan at 27 weeks and have to go back at 34 they said it was due to erosion and my placenta is creeping round over my cervix. Haven't had a bleed since though fingers crossed for us both x x
