Anyone heard of this injection??

Hi all

I wanted to ask about the injection I had today.

I asked my other half again what it was for (as I don't understand much BG). It was instead of tablets, the tablets or injection is an extra boost of protection for the pregnancy ( I presume my bean), you can take it in tablet form, but I had injection. He also said that the injection or tablets are not normally given in the UK until after the first 3 months.

He also told me to take at least 2 folic acid tablets a day ( I take one now) even though there is some folic acid in my multi vitamin tablets for pregnancy.

Also gave me Vitamin E tablets of which I have to take 2 a day (also this is already in my mulit vits).

This was all said once we told him I was 37, so we presume it is becuase of my age and do give my little bean a little boost.

Has anyone ever come across having so many tablets plus this injection?

Ok, I've looked at the prescription and what I can desipher it says pregnyl 5000. Ok, I've looked this up and it says do not take this medication if you are pregnant!!!!!!!!!! What the F**K!!! I'm freaking! Ok, I knwo we can't red doctors writing but I can clearly see pre*yl 5000. Other half, who reads Bulgarian says it is pregnyl. What the hell is going on?! Taking this medication when you are already pregnant can cause birth defects!

Oh talk about a lowsy day!

I think you are best off calling the doctor to verify what the medication is for.

Either ask your doctor or go to a pharmacist and see what they have to say.

I've never heard of an injection such as this one. I'm almost 39 and pregnant.

I suspect its a Bulgarian thing (supposing youre still there ).. different countries do different things ive been told (im polish and norwegian myself). Im the same age as you and ive been told only to take folic acid supplements. in fact, the dietician at the hospital doesnt advocate any supplements at all after the first trimester as she prefers woman to eat their vitamins and minerals etc..

i wouldnt worry about it unless you get too much of some stuff but your doctor should be on top of that anyway..

Charlie, Hello. that pergnayl a nother name hcg i am going to use it this month, I will go to the dr. on day 9 or 10 of my cycle and what it does is make you O right away it can also cause me to drop more then one egg. better chance to get pg. I am not sure why your Dr. gave that to you but I would called him right away and find out, maybe you just hopefully mis read his wrighting. Good luck honey and please keep us updated.

Good morning all

Well I contacted a friend in the UK to ask the NHS helpline for some information. I emailed a company that said if you would like advice or information on pregnyl 5000 please contact us. I did and they basically said they couldn't give me advice as they were not sure exactly what the doctor told me. They can't go against another doctors advice. I wasn't asking them too!!! This is all about everyone being able to sue everyone for the slightest thing I think!!!

So I am no closer. I am going to see if a friend will go with me to the pharmacy today and ask why the doctor would give me this injection. I'll let you know.

Hmmmmmmm I had a Pregnyl injection to mature my follicles before Egg Collection during an IVF treatment cycle....its a HCG shot, some consultants advocate HCG support to ensure a healthy pregnacy.

Hi all

Not sure why but I replied to this post but it hasn't come up!! Oh well.

I went to see a friend who speaks English and is pregnant at the mo so was very helpful and supportive. She also said that if I ever wanted her to go to a doctors appointment, she would, not a problem. Great news.

We went to the pharmacy and asked what pregnyl is, and they basically said what we already knew. The gave my friend a book with all medications in with explainations for what their use is. It says exactly what Rachie has just confirmed, that it can be used to help support and strengthen the pregnancy. I presume there are only one or 2 shots as I still read on 3 websites that it should not be used on pregnant women. So I think as long as they are not wanting to give me a shot every week for the next few months, then hopefully my bean has been given another helping hand.

Thanks for your support through this. It's hard enough being pregnant without being in a foreign country! Still I will be having the baby here and not in the UK. I know another English woman who had a baby here last year, she had to fight to have her husband in the delivery room as this is not accepted. Believe me, there will be some arguments from me if they don't allow my other half in, I will make my delivery their worst nightmare if they dare to argue!!!

Well tomorrow I go to the docs again, I preume he will do a scan again, I'm hoping this time he'll turn the monitor my way so I can have a gander at my little peanut. He will also give me another injection and now, as I have done research and got info from people on here and my friend, I am happy to get it, if it helps peanut grow, then great. I am also considering telling my mum and dad tomorrow, if doc says all is well. I know my OH doesn't want anyone to know until we get to about 12 weeks, but I need to tell my mum, she's my mum, I think you all know what I mean.

So fingers crossed, tomorrow will be a good appointment and I will report back to you all with the results

Hi all

Well just got back from doctors and had a scan aswell as another injection.

Doc started the scan and almost immediately said "super", and "good", he says all is well and this time he turned the screen round for me to see. Ok, peanut is more of a blob but even though the screen was flickering a little, he pointed out where I could see the heart beating. OH said he couldn't see it as the screen was flickering but he didn't get up to look closely. He's still in worried mode about how we are going to manage, etc. We are going to be in a mess, we are building a house together this year and now, I won't be able to help out so now we will have to pay someone and this costs money when we need all the money we can get, etc, etc. I agree with him that the timing couldn't be worse, but I'm not going to let it get me down. I'm very very happy.

Well I'm on cloud nine and am going to tell my mum and dad later (I've already requested them to be on Skype so we can chat).

I don't need to go again until about the 20th March so, if all goes well with peanut, we should see more than a blob next time we go!
