anyone know anything about cars? i think i broke mine

i have a 2000 semi- auto Toyota Yaris. i cant get it to go into gear. it makes a horrible noise when i try to put it into reverse and it doesnt want to go into first at all. when it did go into first it drove fie untill i tried to change to second and then the revs (?) shot up to 2 but the car barely moved. there is also a !} kind of sign flashing on the dash board.

i spent 15 minz rigging the garage today untill the giy in the pizza shop pointed out its a sunday.

can anyone help at all? thought there might be someone on here who is good with cars.

Sounds like your gear box by the sounds of it.

Thanks. Just had the aa out. And the bloke thinks it might be the fact that the fluid that runs the tiptronic gearbox is empty. Or the cables in the gear stick are worn.
But said to fill up on the fluid first. We dont have an actual clutch so it apparently needs the fluid to help change gears.
