So I'm 22w5d, single parent.
I live at home with my mum and brothers but I am very unhappy here and dont want my little boy brought up in a house where I constantly feel depressed.
I need my own space too.

My Dad doesnt want me moving into his house and I dont particually want to live in his house either, so he said he would help me find somewhere to private rent and pay deposit and rent until the baby is born so I dont have to go into a hostel or mother and baby home.

What I want to know is, before we go ahead and do this, does anyone know what benefits I would be entitled to when the baby is born?
I work 15 hours pw so would this affect them helping me with housing benefits?

I dont want my dad to spend all that money on getting me a place if when the baby is born I cant afford..

any help and advice would be appreciated

Use entitled.com an put as if you've had the baby.
This website is good.. Just crap when it comes to working out my tax credits! Lol! Xx

I'm not sure but I think housing benefit is changing early next year so you might only be entitled to a room rate if you are under 25. Best to check on your local councils website what the local housing allowance (LHA) is.
Also bear in mind that a landlord may not want somebody on benefits renting from them and may not be allowed to rent to you as some insurance providers dictate they cannot.

that doesnt apply if you have children

You would be entitled to the 2 room rate (after having the baby) but obviously, Housing benefit is means tested so it would depend how much you earn and how much tax credits you get/savings you have. You would need to know this before doing any housing benefit calculation.

Yes I know about housing benefit and council tax benefit as that's my job

You would indeed be entitled to both, as soon as the baby's born you will get the 2 bed rate lha and the moment you would only get the shared rate.

Check www.entitledto.co.uk they also do a potential tax credit award as well. You can play with the figures on there.

You could also apply for a dhp (discretionary housing payment) when you move, as you are more that certain to have a shortfall between your hb/Ctb and liability for rent and ctax.

April ctax is changing, the scheme will be localised, I am unable to advise re this. But it's almost certain that you will have to pay some council tax. Your local council might have info about this, but unlikely as only just passed for royal ascent, after as there may be more details?

If you need more help, get in touch :)
