i was thinking of making my own, anyone know when i need to start making it (ive heard they take a while to make), how well they keep ing the freezer, what amount of ingredients for 9 adults, 3 children and 2 babies....
my gran and i were going to try the other year, but it didn't go well, so we gave up and made apple crumble and mince pies instead - and bought the christmas pudding..
hope you have more luck than we did!
xx
I always make my own cake and really should make my own pud!. If i was making it though i would do it the same time as i would my cake which is towards the end of October, so it has plenty of time to mature.
My mom always makes both the pudding and the cake, think she usually makes them in early October. Although one year she did make a last minute one (I think it was a Delia Smith recipie) which was quite nice but just not as strongly flavoured as normal as it didn't have the time to mature.
If you have a good recipe then christmas pudding can be stored for years without freezing! Generally they are better if they are made at least a few weeks ahead so they mature.
Last year my Gran gave me the family recipe, but I'm dreading being the one to make it - there is soooo much booze in it and it seems such a shame to have to buy it, seeing as me and DH don't drink!
