some may remember a few months back that my son and i became quite unwell after eating a chinese takeaway containing chicken.
it affected my son 24 hrs later where he was vomitting quite a bit but the sickness passed quite quickly- he was off colour for a few days and didnt eat or drink much. i called the drs who said it was obviously what he ate and to keep him at home and see how he gets on. his symptoms passed within a couple days or so-
when he got better my symptoms appeared, took a couple days but i was very ill with it.
I was vomitting all night on the first day i had symptoms plus i had stomach cramps rather bad and then for about 4 days after i was off my food totally and felt really off- the last day of my symptoms i developed diarrhea; after that it went all together and i was back to normal..

whats worrying me is what ive just come across online about food poisioning potentially harming the unborn baby. i did call maternity ward several times during the course of my symptoms and they just told me to drink plenty and rest up but from what i'm reading about it, i should have gone to a dr for tests, just to see what type of bactaria i was infected with!

my question to you girls is basically have you ever suffered from this and did you see the dr? i recall telling my OB at my last visit that i had previously had food poisoning which is why i stopped eating meat, she asked "when was this"? in a rather concerned manner, but when i said "a few months ago" she didnt really say much as im assuming it's too late now to know what it was i actually had....

Sorry hun, I havent had food poisioning so cant really help you there. I know it sounds awful but maybe you should have a moan about it to them. Its abit off they didnt do what was right a few months ago.
I am sure bubs is fine though!

My friend had eaten something bad when she was about 5 months pregnant, got very sick from it. She didn't follow up either and it went away after a couple days. She's now 34 weeks and everything seems just fine.

I think you've just got to trust that everything is ok, because you can't go back now. You did the best you could at the time, and still everything looks good, right! So many things can affect our little ones it's really hard to figure out what to worry about or not!

I had food poisoning a couple months ago as well. We had pizza, not Chinese food. Mmmm Chinese food!

Anyways, both OH and I were sick for a few days. Nausea, vomiting, but no diarrhea. Our symptoms only lasted for 48 hours. I had an appointment a couple days later and I told my doctor about it. She listened to his heart beat and said that he sounded just fine, but she would want to check his growth and his heart beat again 2 weeks later, which was when my next appointment was booked for. At that appointment, he was growing quite well and his heart beat was strong. She said that no damage has been done.

If it's been a few months and your doctor or midwife hasn't said anything about worrying about your LO's heartbeat, I think your LO is just fine. Then again, I'm not a doctor. But if you really are worried about it, I would mention it next time you go in for an appointment, just to be on the safe side.

i spoke to my mw and she said its mainly the mother that feels rotten and rarely will it affect baby- my little one is always a week ahead in dates so i know he's growing, but its things like blindness and brain damage that im concerned about since i'd never heard of that happening before just from contaminated food. I know we're supposed to watch what we eat but you'd put trust in a take away the same as you would going to tesco and buying a box of fish and cooking it...

Had it twice.. once at 5 weeks pregnant and again at 29ish weeks.

Baby is absolutely fine (no brain damage etc), it affects you a lot more. The placenta acts as a filter so a very limited amount gets through. The main concern is dehydration, as long as you keep your fluids up, there's rarely complications.
