anyone else taking labetalol for high blood pressure? they put me on it in tuesday night. spent last night in hospital with blood pressure still high (168/108). bp was down on thursday when i went to hospital to check it but yesterday went to midwife it was back up and she sent me to hospital. this morning bp was pretty much normal but they want me to come back tomorrow to check it. midwife said to me tablets might not work everytime

if you have taken it have you had any side effects? ive been so tired and felt a bit sick after starting them, i assume this is normal? also short of breath? should i still tell about these side effects when i go to hospital tomorrow as i forgot to talk about them this morning/last night?

I took it in my last pregnancy. I haven't had any problems yet with the pressure but I am sure it will come. I don't remember being short of breath as a side effect of the pills so much as the massive amount of swelling that I was having. Because the pills do lower your BP it can make you tired. You should get used to it in about 1-2 weeks and it won't make you as tired as it is now. But looking at your ticker unless it is wrong, why in the world haven't they delivered you? At 40 weeks there is no benefit in letting you be pregnant if you are starting to have complications. I know that most people are anti induction but with me it didn't take long before my high BP turned into a bunch of complications and then an emergency C section. Might want to ask if they can move things along.

I have no idea hun. they just put me on tablet and were talking about induction but no. they even said if my bp is still up they just put me on tablet three times a day (now twice). well yesterday consultant then said if my bp is still up today morning (going there soon) they would induce me. thats why they gave me sweep yesterday. but everyone has asked me why on earth they havent done it yet... which i found strange also cos there is no reason (like not being far enough) not to be induced. im really scared of c section and dont want that so i think now would be a good time to start off my labor when i dont have any conplications.

Hello there, I started taking it this week and have been much the same! I have felt sick …. a bit shivery at times and spaced out …. but i guess it's just your body getting used to not running at a head popping b.p! mine went up to a high of 152/120 on monday!!! I had no symptoms what so ever, and would never have known if not for the fact i was having to attend a hospital foetal assessment unit appointment due to going in over night the week before for high blood pressure! I am now on a dose of 200mg 3 times a day, and its still high … 134/95 … but is a bit better!!!!
Am sure it just takes time for your body to adjust to it.
Hope it all goes well for you.

I've just been put on labetalol 200 mg twice a day after a 4 night hospital stay as BP at my scan at 21weeks was 160/110. i get itchy and can't stop scratching and also breathless and shivery, i keep falling asleep but that only started happening after i went on Chlorphenimine 4mg for the itching find it really scary as my OH is due back to work next week and i have my girls to look after and i keep flaking out.

I was put on it yesterday and allowed out of hospital after a couple of nights' stay, now on 200mg twice a day to try and get it down. I was told I definitely wouldn't be allowed out for a few days and then "bye you can go" without a big drop in bp, it was better but she (mw) said it was still very high for a preggo :) anyway I was so pleased to be allowed home I legged it and have one week's supply to take with me and I have to go get my bp checked every day for a few days and a consultant appt next week. Loads of people said they'd just induce me but they certainly were in no hurry for that.

I've got one really painful arm but I think that's because they've squeezed it so many times over the last 48 hours, I can barely lift it. I feel a bit groggy but mostly just sore from other baby stuff...like I said though I only started it yesterday so loads of time to feel rough :/

I walked home from my daughters nursery today and really thought i was going to pass out :( told my MW and she was going to get the consultant to change me to another BP med but put my BP in wrong and wrote in my notes my BP was 139/92 when it was 129/89 so consultant just upped my dosage

I've been on it since 10 weeks (I'm now 32 weeks) starting dose was 100mg twice a day. I'm now on 300mg, 200mg then 300mg daily. The tiredness gets to me along with the tingly scalp but they are the worst symptoms I've had. To be honest I don't rate the midwifes or the consultants in their treatment of my blood pressure, my practice nurses and GP have been far better. I downloaded the NICE guidelines myself and have learnt to trust my own instincts. My blood pressure is currently sitting around 150/80 which the NICE guidlelines indicate further treatment but the hospital don't want to do anything so I see my practice nurse twice a week to monitor it myself. The only plus side to the blood pressure issue is I've been having fornightly growth scans since 20 weeks and little man is doing fine infact is measuring quite big so it looks like the medication has done no damage. Plus I know many people would love to be having such regular opportunities to see there little one xxx
