Hi ladies,

dh and I have never been comfortable with the 'traditional' method of collecting semen for analysis; masturbation. This is partly for religious reasons but there are also a long list of other reasons too.

I was doing some research online and there are quite a few studies that have looked at semen collected via this method Vs. the traditional method of masturbation. It is quite interesting. Studies show that semen samples obtained through intercourse are more viable and superior than those obtained through masturbation.

My clinic said that the sample has to be collected via masturbation but I am thinking to purchase one of these and then transport the :spermy: into one of the hospital pots. I have no idea how easy that is going to be!

I was wondering if anyone has any experience of using one of these devices. I would be interested to find out more.

Take a look: https://www.homefertility.com/scollection.html

My DH is also very uncomfortable with the collection part of it, but then making sure everything is ready to go on time is so important I don't think I'd try anything other than what is recommended. We have talked about diff options but I just feel they are risky...

Hi there Imaan

My husband and I are Catholics and therefore against masturbation. Our semen analysis was made with something called Male Factor Pack and was a result of natural intercourse.
I hope you find a way you are comfortable with
Amber
PS I also heard that this method is more reliable!

Hi Amber,

Thanks for your reply... where did you buy your pack from? was the hsoptal ok with you using that? and did you have to transfer the same to one of their pots?

We got a container sent from the hospital who was analyzing the sperm. After we had collected the sperm with Tha Male Factor pack condom we just put it (the sperm) into the container. We did not tell the hospital how it was collected. My german doctor gave us the Male factor Pack (We are in treatment with NaProTechnology which is a very succesful Catholic treatment) but as far as I know you can get it over the internet.
Best wishes, Amber

Thanks Amber,

I will look into getting one of those! :)

Hello,

My name is Raphaëlle Derome, I am a journalist with Canadian public radio (CBC/Radio-Canada). I am doing a story on semen collection condoms and am looking for couples who have used this product.

If you have used the collection condoms, would you or your spouse be willing to share your experience? If so, would you be available for a short phone interview on this topic? If that is OK I would record that interview and might broadcast a short excerpt. If you do not feel comfortable, we can also do the interview without recording, for me to use your story as background info.

I have to conduct this interview on Tuesday Feb. 26th at the latest (I hope you will get this message on time!).

Please let me know if you would be willing to participate.

Best regards,

Raphaëlle Derome

My husband and I are also Catholic and trying to do a semen analysis according to the Church's rules. We were able to get a special condom from the lab itself, but they are also available online. The trouble is the perforation requirement--in order to abide by Church doctrine, the condom must be perforated. Well, the perforation tore the condom and we had to wind up canceling our appointment. If there are any other Catholics on this forum who have any tips about how to comply with the perforation requirement without ruining the condom, I would really appreciate some info. This is very trying.

Hi everybody,

I went through this semen analysis issue some month ago, and it was very difficult for me to find on Internet a reliable information. This is why I am searching the threads about this topic to help people in the same situation.

I am catholic and I discussed the official roman church teaching about this with a priest specialist of this technical question.
It is not obvious, because the 1st priest I talked to was not sure about the anwser, so he asked his collegue who was skilled studied this question.
=> Masturbation is not allowed for ANY medical purpose ! Sorry, I suspected something like this...

Anyway, after many searches I found a discussion about electroejaculation (see on wikipedia).
This procedure can be done in most IVF centers with anaesthesia and electric pulses.
I had it two months ago, and when I woke up I had my semen analysis report without any side effect... or moral dilemna !
Yes I had to travel and to pay about 2k$ but it was worth it !

Hope this helps !
