Hi
I'm an LT LTTTCer, I haven't been around much recently but you may have seen me around over the last few years.
In brief, after a number of unsuccessful ICSI/IVF we were advised just over a year ago that it may be time to give up trying with my own eggs and move on to receiving donor eggs. It's taken me a while to get my head around it.
I'm still trying to weigh up the pros and cons of UK donation Vs overseas. I've just started phoning some UK clinics and most talk about waiting lists of about a year, except for 1 which is quoting approx 6 months. But then there seem to be additional hurdles and costs with getting copies of all my previous notes to a new clinic and the time for a new clinic to do all the tests and consultations and then the wait to be top of the list ...
The clinic I've been with in the UK has links with a clinic in Spain (Instituto Bernabeu, Alicante) so I think all my initial appointments drugs etc would all be through the UK clinic and then just go out to Spain for the transfer (I think ...) and in theory I could be PUPO within a couple of months.
What I can't get my head around is booking flights and hotels at short notice. Getting a call to say the donor will be ready for collection in 2 days so really only having 24 hours to get everything organised. How would that work? I'm not very travelled and I find the 'last minute' scenario terrifying.
Anyone else been there and done that and got any advice for last minute travel booking? Or any experience/comments about receiving donated eggs?
Everything seems terribly complicated and time consuming at the moment.
