Hi ladies :)

I'm just a little concerned over the size of the baby, especially being that I'm so small (just 5 feet tall).

I will be having another ultrasound this week to check on the baby's size. I'm not dilated at all yet so the doctor said if the baby skips his due date we will talk about a c-section. I hope he doesn't reach 10 lbs by 40 weeks :dohh:

Has anyone here chose a c-section due to a big baby? do you think it's the way to go for someone my size?

Mine measured 6lb 13 oz at 37+2 days scan, the doc said its measuring average size for my dates but to me it sounds a bit big

Mine measured 6.14 at 36+4. dd was 7.07 at birth 40+ 2 so I'm thinking it maybe wrong. Can go 1 pound either way xx

I had my 2nd at 36wks and he was just over 7Lb, I had scan 2 hours before he was born and told he was very small less than 5lb scans can often be wrong by 2pm either way so I wouldn't take too much notice if it was me of EFW.

Everyone i know... and I'm not exaggerating... everyone that i know whom has given birth from the past few years to my mum giving birth to me, has been told that they were due to give birth to HUGE babies, only to discover that they were not even close. I was supposed to be well over 8 pound, i came out just over 5 pound. My best friend just gave birth 5 months ago, was told going to be a big baby, came out just over 6 pound. Honestly, I don't think they truly know because your waters take up a lot of space too. :)

My baby girl is measuring 7lb 7oz at 36+6. Doctor isnt worried she'll be too big and im just happy she's growing well. I wont be having a section. Im not tall but not short (5'5"). Growth ultrasounds can be out by a pound either way though.

Even at my US last week, the tech said that they're rarely accurate and just guesses. She guessed mine to be at 4lbs at not even 30 weeks!! Yikes. My first son was 6lbs 1 oz at 41 weeks! I saw my midwife today and she felt around and said my big belly is NOT baby. She said it's mostly water and some reserves. Also she said they gain about 1.5lbs approx over 5 weeks. I'm sure you'll be fine though, 7lbs at 37 weeks doesn't sound too big to me. Especially as they're probably wrong! lol.

Dont stress about those measurements. My baby 'measured' 7lb6oz at 36 weeks, yet he was only 7lb 8 oz when he was born three weeks later...so they can be very off, either direction.

I had a scan at 36+6 and my little chunk weighed 7lb 8oz! No section for me I'm planning a VBAC :)

Thanks ladies :flower: I hope you're right and his size won't be that much of an isssue. I'm definitely happy he's growing well, I just worry that he might be too big for a natural birth and that might cause problems for both of us. I wouldn't want him to have trouble getting out and become distressed :-/

Hi CatherineK, I hope that's the case with mine too :)
They told me he was 7 lbs 2 oz at 37 weeks, which I guess is not super big but the doctor did say that he's big and they'd rather he doesn't go overdue cause of it.

Hi RyliesMummy, omy that's a big baby LOL hopefully they won't insist on a c-section for you either :) At this point I'm alright with having one I guess, as long as they think it's the best for me and the baby.

my dd was born 37 weeks 3 days and was 8 lbs 1oz.

I wouldn't worry too much about the weight they are saying from a scan, they are often wrong!!

With DS I had a scan at 36 weeks due to having a previously undetected small baby (5lb at 38 weeks) the scan at 36 weeks with DS showed he was already weighing in at 8 and a half pounds. I saw the consultant who decided to induce me a week early as I struggled to deliver my first child who was 7lb 7oz so if they had left me go to term or over DS would have been over 9lb. AT 37 weeks my waters broke (a week after the scan) DS was born that day and only weighed 7lb 2.5oz so they was very wrong.

I have had friends be told their babies were going to be small or average and they ended up with larger babies and vice verser. I think these sizing scans only scare and worry you more sometimes :(

I've got to admit that ALL the estimates for my babies have been spot on and they were born only a couple of ounces out of the estimate. I'm having a sweep next Tuesday at 37 weeks and been told my baby will be over 8lbs and if the sweep doesn't work I will be induced on the 9th due to GD and the loss of my youngest son last week:cry: x

I'm having my growth scan in a few hours so hopefully they won't tell me he's huge LOL. He's very active most of the time so that's a good sign, I just hope he's born close to his due date :)

Do babies gain much weight in the last couple of weeks? I read somewhere that they gain a lot less after 38 weeks or so. I hope that's the case, haha. I haven't really gained much weight this week myself.

Hi Janey :-) I guess they might be a bit off. I'd rather the baby be induced or taken by c-section before 42 weeks though just in case, lol

Hi JoJo I'm so sorry to hear about your loss :( I hope the new baby brings a lot of joy to you and your family :hugs:

Heya honey, Mine was weighing in at 8lbs at 36week growth scan! :) Xxx
