Applying for College - JSA

Hi ladies, looking for abit of advice really.

I never got the chance to go to college when I left school, I went straight into working for a few years. I left my job due to moving around etc and now finding it increasingly difficult to find more work, nobody seems to be interested in me because I don't have any qualifications above GCSE level. The gap in my CV is only getting bigger. I have always wanted to work with children, and now want to apply to college and do an Access to Higher Education course, the same one my sister did, so I can get myself to university. Is this possible while claiming JSA? Or do I really need to be working to get on this sort of course? I would ask the jobcentre for advice but all they are interested in is putting me on the courses they choose, that are mostly level one college courses that don't really mean anything or have nothing to do with what I want to do!

I'd be grateful if someone could provide me with a bit more info please. I am going to phone up the college but can't until Thursday. I am also going to print off the application form, which has a box that you can tick if you are on JSA, I am just wondering if they will turn me down because I am on it?

Ok thank you for the response, I am just going to fill out the form and send it and see what happens, no harm in trying right!
