Hope you dont mind me posting this in hereas well, just trying to see if anyone has any advice.

I'm going to apply for a job ive just seen in the paper, a clothes shop is advertising for temp, casual and xmas staff. It says just to send your CV in but i will also write a covering letter as im pregnant and want them to know this from the start. Do i just say that im 15 weeks pregnant and am available to work up until 36 weeks and work out the date and pop it down too?

Thank you x

yeah i would do that, as then you are being completely honest from the start xx

i wanna watch this one. i'm debating whether or not to apply for a job after 1st tri. a lot of places are likely to not hire pregnant women depending on how far along they are (which is unfair!). but it's worth a try. it's only seasonal right? for xmas season. you should be fine :)

I really doubt i will get a job but have more chance getting a temp position over a perminant role. Yes its only for xmas cover, just really need some pennies!!!

If it was me I wouldnt tel them, only after they offer you the job. They cant NOT give you the job because you are pregnant but they could use some other reason!

Its tricky. I found out I was pregnant this week.

I finished uni this year and so have been applying for graduate jobs (bloody nightmare!) I had an interview a few weeks back now and then an assesment day last weekend. I got the job and go for a weeks training week after next and then start the role.
I have decided not to tell them untill I have to - I got the job before being pregnant and in theory I could easily not know im pregnant at this stage anyway.

Not sure what I would do if I was pregnant when applying though - I would probably miss it off - once you have the job they cannot sack you for pregnancy but they can discriminate when you apply - even though they arnt supposed to!!Just go for job especially as its a temp one anyway! Good luck!!x

I agree with mummy mac and calamity jane.

I've worked in personnel for a long time and have seen that people definitely discrimminate against pregnant women all the time. (I've even seen companies replace women on maternity leave with men and pay them more money for the same job!! :growlmad: Blatant!!!)
I wouldn't tell them I was pregnant until you get the job. Even though the pregnancy shouldn't affect seasonal work, they will still worry that you may get sick or need time off for appointments etc (which they are obliged to allow you) and they won't want to deal with the added health and safety risks.

If you do tell them and they ask you any pregnancy related question at all in an interview, it is automatically sexual discrimmination (as they wouldn't ask a man etc).

Good luck and hope you get the job!! x :flower:

i wouldnt tell them

im 5weeks and 5days and i was at a job interview on monday and i didnt say

they phoned me this morning and offered me the job ive still not told them im due to start after my holiday so thats in 2 weeks time i will tell them once ive started and make out i only just found out

good luck

I was offered trainee dental nurse position few weeks ago but 10 days ago I found out I'm pregnant, I rang my boss ( I suppose to start next Monday) and told her that I'm pregnant, she unfortunately didn't let me work as I don't have Hepatitis B injection so she can't risk cos baby comes first. Shame about the job but I'm really happy I'm pregnant! If I apply for another job I wouldn't tell at the beginning unless there is a hazard like working in dental surgery, hospital or manual work. :)

I have an interview next thursday and I'm not going to tell them. I guess it's none of their business until you're showing! :)

I wouldn't tell them at the beginning either. Even if you can work up until 36 weeks your doctor may want you to sit as much as possible for other reasons. In my experience, retail jobs don't like people to sit at ALL even if it wouldn't interfere with their jobs. Yes, you will need to tell them, but after hired and trained... then explain it and say you didn't like hiding it, but you wanted to show that it wont' affect your work ability first.

They also may know you'll have lifting restrictions and though they wouldn't have thought about it if you weren't pregnant, knowing you can't lift X amount of weight may make them feel too limited.

Of course, at least here in the US... if you can't do the job and they cannot accomodate you (lifting restrictions, need to sit etc) then they can send you home on early leave (unpaid and if you've been there less than a year, they don't have to keep your job for you etc).
