Hello ladies, as you all know my next fertility appt is on Tues. last time we went he fobbed us off for 3 months, told me to BD on day 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18, totally disregarded my short luteal phase conversation and told us to relax. This time I want to go in armed with info as to what i want/need.
I have a short luteal phase- usually start spotting 7dpo and AF arrives between 8-9dpo. What is the next step that I should be pushing for?, i hear so many different things i.e lap and dye, Clomid, HSG and im a bit confused as to what does what, if you get my meaning.
Im waiting for my cd21 test to come back, assuming that reads "normal" i need to know what I want next, if it doesn't read normal im hoping i will be prescribed some form of Progesterone but won't know that until Mon/Tues.

For short luteal phase you need progesterone. That's what I hear, anyway. Progesterone supplements which will lengthen the phase and allow the body to take on a pregnancy.

You probably will be asked to have an ultrasound. Possibly a HSG. Lap and Dye normally comes later a) if HSG shows something or b) you have suspected endometriosis.

I think what you should be asking for is a US scan, perhaps a HSG if anything shows up and definitely progesterone supplements.

im hoping that my progesterone does show up as low considering that AF arrived the day after the test! then GP can prescribe Progesterone or consultant i assume

You can actually buy progesterone in chemists in cream form so I am assuming a GP can prescribe it. My auntie is on progesterone as a hormone replacement because she is going through the menopause. Her GP gave her it. Its not a fertility drug so it does not need to be prescribed by a fertility specialist.

They will probably do a routine scan though. Its easy. Simple enough. It just checks for cysts and the like, something that would indicate a problem in conception but if you are sure its your luteal phase that is the problem then that might be what they initially focus on.

Is an easy problem to fix though.

Hi loops

I would tell the consultant that you followed his instructions re days to BD so that he feels as though you're not totally ignoring his advice - he is after all the supposed expert so I would at least let him think you're giving him his place. Then if they don't do it anyway, I'd ask for an internal scan, and then a HSG - the HSG is usually done within the first 10 days of the cycle so you may be lucky and get it done this cycle or you may not be - they may only do HSGs on one day. They should also take swabs as well if they haven't already been done.

I don't think anything else was done at my first consultation - I know this is your second but I wasn't sent away after my first one and told to keep trying. Hopefully you'll have your CD21 bloods to take with you, and if you have results from DH's SA take those with you too.

If I think of anything else I'll let you know.

:hugs:

i was given an internal scan and clomid cos of irregualr cycles but if ur cycles are regualar hun they may scan and go from the results of ur bloods...good luck xx

I spoke to a nurse a while ago - after I had my bloods done - who told me to push for a lap and dye and hystersocopy. she said that it is the gold standard for fertility investigation and it is so much better to get it over with in one go. if you have a vaginal ultrasound and then a HSG you may still end up have a lap anyway - so you might as well get it all done in one go. the NHS is so slow - the quicker you can move on the better.

at my last appt i pushed to get the lap rather than having a HSG first - and i mentioned my concerns over my short luteal phase - and after i begged and pulled out all my charts like a crazy woman he let me.

Wishing you the best of luck sweetie.

Ive considered buying the cream before but obviously wanted to be sure that was what was wrong, gonna see what my cd21 bloods say. I hope he does do a scan, that'll feel like progress, someone looking inside and actually looking to see whats wrong!

a HSG
Thanks, what does a HSG do? ill search it anyway. Ive had swabs done before by GP. I hope he books us in for a HSG while im still at the beginning of my cycle, will only be cd4 on TUes

HSG is just an x ray test which shows if a contrast dye runs through the tubes when flushed through the cervix. It shows up blockages.

If i had a blockage would I ovulate? ill definately be asking for that and then Clomid i think, my cycles seem to have regulated at 27/28 days, or they have done for the previous 2 months, just need my ovulation to be a week earlier!

If you had a blockage you would probably still ovulate but the spermies wouldn't be able to get to the eggie. I don't think a blockage on its own would stop ovulation.

In case I don't get a chance to come on here later, good luck for your appointment tomorrow. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you

they do a HSG when they are doing a lap anyway - as well as getting in there with a camera to see what else is going on in there with your ovaries, uterus etc... - so ask for a lap and dye - dont let them fob you off with just a HSG first and a lap later.

Hope it all goes well.

Be firm with them.

Well hun. How did you get on today?

Well appt went crap, proper crap, absolutely no change for another 3 months!!!!!!!!!!
He reckons we have to have been ttc 18 months before further tests can be done, i argued , DH said i got "ginger" at him and he wouldn't budge. He then said i will see the Consultant who is more specialised next time!! who the fuck is he then!!!
I was gutted last night, he said just keep trying, relax, blah de blah! i said i can't relax when ive been ttc 15 months! I know its actually 13months but im so glad we lied now.
He is just so crap, reckons my luteal phase is fine.
Next appt is 30th Dec, taking matters into my own hands now and gonna try book for a Private consultation. I emailed a couple of places last night. Im still waiting for my blood results as well so im hoping they show a deficiency and she will start me on some form of Progesterone, if not im going to try progesterone cream. I just feel that no one will listen not one will take my short luteal phase seriously
