I find it's easier to premake feeds and reheat as I need but having just changed to Aptamil it says to make each one fresh....impossible with a screaming baby! I should be ok to premake, rapid cool then refrigerate shouldn't I?

I don't use aptimil but they all say make them fresh I pre make boil kettle add water and powder to bottle then rapid cool then store in the fridge and heat as needed xx

I always pre-make mine, same as sarah, HV and MW always say make fresh but i find it impossible especially when Hollie is screamin the house down for her feed, like my mam said they never used to make fresh back in her day and there was no warnings about premaking bottles.

That's my logic Zoe - my mum said they didn't have any guidelines when I was born and we were all fine!

I use cow and gate, but the easiest way I have found for quick warmed bottles is have some room temp just water in, half filled, boil kettle and top up other half, give it a good shake and add powder.

Iwan likes his at room temp so I just have cooled bottles ready to go for the formula to go in and done ready for when little man sings for his supper xxx

My hv said ok to make in advance as long as fridge relatively modern then store in the salad bin or at the bak on the fridge. This is what we do & no probs here!

I use Aptamil and have been making up feeds and warming them up for the night feeds and trying to make fresh during the day. This is becoming hard as Evie is quite unpredictable as to when she will wake up wanting a feed so I may start making them up throught the day too. If I do them when i think she may be about to wake the bottles are only in the fridge for a couple of hours at a time so cant be too bad!

Delly that's what I've been doing for the day feeds but will make up night feeds ready to be warmed. I've been premaking about 3'feeds for the night and taking them upstairs leaving them a room temp and then warming. Is this ok to do? Or should i run some cold water and store the bottles in the cold water ready to be used?

hey, I wouldn't store premade milk at room temp as it goes off very quickly sniff it to check, Iwans bottles smell vile after about 3 hours.
They have to be refridgerated if pre made. I just have powder measured out ready to go so there isn't much to do other than tip and shake. I'm lucky tho Iwan likes his feeds at room temp.

I'd try both ways and see which suits, it might be worth trying Ava on room temp bottles as if she'll have them you can just whack the powder in fresh xxx

You should store them in the fridge, formula should be used within 2 hours of making, or you could take a cool bag upstairs and store for 4 hours in there but they would have to have been in the fridge for 1 hour first to get to temperature after they have been quick cooled

quick cooling is just standing in cold water for 10 mins yeh?

rapid/quick cool is plonking in cold water or running uner cold tap yeah!

Thanks for the advice girls, I'll make sure all feeds are stored in the fridge just a right pain as by the time she gets her food shes blue in the face from screaming :(

Delly she wont drink room temperature milk it has to be warm little madam!

the stage 3 aptamil-weaning from 3 months, only make when baby wants a drink as it does go funny if u leave them after a few hours bottle ready made up cos lastnight the milk looked wierd an when i had used it an left the the rest of the milk in the bottle when used it went manky funny in the teat so recommended id defo make up an hour before he wants it an let it cool for 20 mins i let it cool on its own. cant help u on the screaming before a feed the stage 1 u can have redy made up for 24 hours in warm temperature aslong as there made up in that time i think???? lol.
x

Just popping in to ask a quick question can the sterlised bottles be filled with the boiled water rapid cool, put in the fridge with the formula added when needed?

yeh but i think it has to be reheated to 70 degrees to kill any bugs in formula and to mix properly x

I just add the formula to the room temp cooled boiled water then reheat  I have a friend who does it this way too. unless you stick a thermometer in the kettle who actually knows for sure its 70 degrees??
