hi im bf for past 5 weeks since birth and starting to top up night feed with formula. which is best for bf babies?

Many formulas claim to be 'closest to breastmilk' and the like. The bottom line is all babies are different when it comes to fomula. It's like saying do you like Walkers or Seabrook - they are both crisps!

you might get more opinions in the formula feeding section. My advice would be buy a carton rather than a tin and see how she likes it then if she doesnt, you didnt waste 7 quid on a tin. :)

Personally from things iv heard i would choose Aptimil, SMA made my little man really constipated and my HV said thats quite common for SMA.. But all babies are different and take different to different formula

I've been using SMA, only for 5 days so far lol but its working so far...

sma gold is crap im sorry , its comman to give baby colic by survey, Adrhianna was on sma gold and she had problems HV advised to change and shes now on aptimil and its a god send !! xxxxxxxxx

We topped up for a couple of weeks and were advised to use Aptimil. We got little cartons as we knew it was a short term thing. Jack didn't have any problems with it.

Ellis was topped up with Aptimal whilst in hospital after SMA disagreed with him, he threw it up after every feed.

Aptimal is better then SMA but personally I prefer Cow & gate

Like MM says formula is formula, different ones suit different babies (I don't understand how one can claim to be closer to breastmilk when your breastmilk changes its make up throughout the babies life to suit babies needs).
My LO sicked up both aptamil & C&G ready to feed, got on fine with SMA ready to feed but then hated it when I changed to SMA powder (thankfully I only bought the small tin) He's now on Hipp powder and seems fine interchanging between that and me.
It's pretty much a case of trial and error and you may get lucky and find the right one straight away.

Is there a reason you're topping up? As topping up can be a slippery slope especially as baby is only a month old...your supply is still in it's earl days of becoming established and you may find yourself needing to top up more and more as your breastmilk can start to diminish.

If you don't NEED to top up I would advise against it and maybe try to express instead as this will help too keep up with the supply and demand needed for successful breastfeeding.

As the others have said the milk is just a brand name....just like one of us may prefer Heinz and another Batchelors and another Campbells, it's all personal preference and they're all much of a muchness. Whatever they say on the tin, none of them contain the same antibodies etc to breastmilk:dohh:

Good luck
