Are you gonna ask people to wash hands before holding baby?

no i wouldnt be unless they have just had a cigarette, been to the toilet etc...

i wouldnt go and wash my hands whenever LO cried before picking him up so it seems rude to me to ask people to wash theirs...

if someone asked me to do that i'd wonder what they were implying

i'd understand with preemie's though or if someone is ill x

I'm going to have some hand sanitizer around the house and plan on asking people to use some before they hold LO.

In my house there is a rule that when you come home you wash your hands right away. Washing your hands is never a bad thing (unless you use antimicrobial soap, normal soap way better).

I won't be, how else is baby meant to build up an immune system? Unless people have obviously dirty hands. In my opinion, antibacterial gel is over used, and not helpful at all. We have immune systems to deal with bacteria and need to be able to build up immunity by coming into contact with it, not eliminating every bit of it.

Here is an interesting article on why the over use of antibacterial products is bad, and it also explains a bit about why exposure to bacteria at a young age is healthy:

Of course, I'm not saying there is anything wrong with clean hands! :D But hands should be clean as a matter of course.

with dd i just used a huge blanket whenever anyone wanted to hold her i had her all wrapped up- my biggest thing was smokers because the smell and whatnot stays in their clothes. my mom smokes and if she came in from smoking i would drap a blanket over her so the baby didnt come in contact with it. I had some of the people wash their hands but not everyone

I don't know whether I will ask people to wash their hands as a general rule, but definitely if they are smokers. I do have a couple of ex colleagues who I will probably see who have poor hygene so I will tell them to (without being offensive of course). If they want to hold baby, she will be wrapped up in a blanket too.

lol nooo noo unless they have been sneezing in their hands or have an obvious cold or summit i really dont think tis necerssary you cant wrap them up in a bubble im sure their immune system is good enough to handel the odd hand germ

how will you know if they have sneezed in their hands? IMO its easier to just ask - most people i know will do it without thinking because they asked people to wash their hands before touching there newborns x
