Hi ladies,
So up until last night I didn't know the actual way pregnancy weeks were calculated and the fact that day 1 of AF starts the 1st week of pregnancy (pending conception, of course) SO now I'm wondering when you read about typical symptoms of the X week of pregnancy, are they talking about the actual weeks or weeks past conception?

They count starting from the first day of your last period. So if you O on CD14, then you are 2 weeks pregnant on the day you O. It's goofy.

They do this because not everyone O's at the same point in their cycle, so it's easier for them to calculate. This is the same reason it is only an "estimated due date".

So at 12 weeks pregnant, you really conceived around 10 weeks ago.

lets is correct, at 12 weeks pregnant you conceived 10 weeks prior. This is done for ease of calculation with the doctors. They go by the start of your AF and they have already added the 2 weeks, which is why no one asks you when you last ovulated, they always ask you the first day of your last AF, but it also means when you finally get the positive test, you are already about 4 weeks =)

Yeah, I had to have a friend who is a nurse (and also five weeks pregnant!) explain this to me recently.

it is a bit confusing isn't it:headspin:

when i had my son i knew the exact day i conceived and so counted 40 wks from then. according to my dates he was due on the 13th and according to my midwife and scans he was due on the 3rd (going by my last af)

guess who was right? ME:smug:

Oh wow....I had no clue about that! Weird. Thanks for sharing.

Hiya! In terms of when people are talking about their symptoms of pregnancy saying that they are feeling sick at 6 weeks pregnant, they are basically describing how far along they are in relation to how doctors would, so 6 weeks from their last cd1 in terms of how you mean it they are 4 weeks past ovulation so 2 weeks after af would have been due xkx

best just to go by the way that we all do it and take 6 weeks as being 6 weeks after cd1 x

The only difference though is if you tst with a clear blue digital, if that says 1-2 weeks then it means that is how many weeks since O. I found it all confusing to start with but think ive got my head around it now!!! :haha:
