I'm not saying other parents shouldn't use them as they would be 'compromising their baby's health' tell me where I ever said that? Its just I personally feel for MY child that they would not be suitable and btw I buy value range stuff or the next cheapest own brand range all the time, I would buy the normal supermarket nappies but sometimes I have had coupons for brand nappies and they are on half price special offer too- this happened with Huggies a while back and they worked out even cheaper than the 'value' ranges. Often value stuff can be a false economy though and works out pricier per item or by weight than the normal ranges xx
I agree with the false economy often (but not with nappies) What bothered me were your comments if they were used every day they might lead to nappy rash. Not nice to hear if they are all you can afford.
And at any rate, the fact they aren't so super duper absorbent, they are more likely to be changed more often and not left on for hours and hours on end - which is what leads to nappy rash no matter which one you use.
That's my opinion if used every day that might be a possibility. OP was not asking as it was all she could afford but because she was curious as to what they are like, I replied with my opinion based on personal experience. Nappy rash was almost a 'given' in the days when all disposables had a plastic coating and PVU pants were the only option over reusables as well. When it comes to boys I'd also be concerned about them heating the genital area too much. A few years ago the tesco value nappies weren't plasticky on the outside they were almost identical to their regular nappies just with less pictures and a bit thinner but for some reason they have changed to a more old fashioned plastic coated nappy. Also them having to be changed more often could make them pricier in the long run. When I used the simply dry pampers for example we were getting through up to 20 a day, of course this isn't only a problem with cheaper nappies I find the premium type of Huggies and pampers whatever they are called these days have the same problems.
I am a long time member of MSE and other money saving sites and parents on there tend to agree that these value nappies are perhaps not the best option and if people are careful and savvy then even branded nappies can be got for comparatively cheaper. For example the big packs of Huggies I got, and Huggies are fine for my son, ended up costing £2.99, this is the big double carry pack that normally costs nearly £10. I used to spend something like £30-£40 a month on nappies, now I spend between £6 and £10. We are not on the highest income and struggle ourselves but its all about being sensible and clever with money and special offers. Buying value ranges is a part of this but it isn't always the be all and end all xx
ETA: and Huggies and pampers regularly give away free full sized packs of nappies via their website or FB page can't get better value than free
