Asda smart price nappies

We're currently using huggies for Sophie as Asda had a deal on for a box of 56 nappies for £8 which worked out £2 cheaper than getting 2 packs of Asdas little angels which we we're going to get as we now use them or Wilkingsons own as Sophie is now in size 6. When she was still in size 5 we used Aldi's own which we're 44 for £5 as they don't do a size 6.

I've bought newborn nappies from Aldi and will continue to buy them until the baby needs size 6 nappies if she has no problems with them.

I have tried wilkingsons own value nappies which i think we're £2 for a pack and even though they didn't leak they did feel cheap and nasty/plastic-y. x

I'm not saying other parents shouldn't use them as they would be 'compromising their baby's health' tell me where I ever said that? Its just I personally feel for MY child that they would not be suitable and btw I buy value range stuff or the next cheapest own brand range all the time, I would buy the normal supermarket nappies but sometimes I have had coupons for brand nappies and they are on half price special offer too- this happened with Huggies a while back and they worked out even cheaper than the 'value' ranges. Often value stuff can be a false economy though and works out pricier per item or by weight than the normal ranges xx
I agree with the false economy often (but not with nappies) What bothered me were your comments if they were used every day they might lead to nappy rash. Not nice to hear if they are all you can afford.

And at any rate, the fact they aren't so super duper absorbent, they are more likely to be changed more often and not left on for hours and hours on end - which is what leads to nappy rash no matter which one you use.

That's my opinion if used every day that might be a possibility. OP was not asking as it was all she could afford but because she was curious as to what they are like, I replied with my opinion based on personal experience. Nappy rash was almost a 'given' in the days when all disposables had a plastic coating and PVU pants were the only option over reusables as well. When it comes to boys I'd also be concerned about them heating the genital area too much. A few years ago the tesco value nappies weren't plasticky on the outside they were almost identical to their regular nappies just with less pictures and a bit thinner but for some reason they have changed to a more old fashioned plastic coated nappy. Also them having to be changed more often could make them pricier in the long run. When I used the simply dry pampers for example we were getting through up to 20 a day, of course this isn't only a problem with cheaper nappies I find the premium type of Huggies and pampers whatever they are called these days have the same problems.

I am a long time member of MSE and other money saving sites and parents on there tend to agree that these value nappies are perhaps not the best option and if people are careful and savvy then even branded nappies can be got for comparatively cheaper. For example the big packs of Huggies I got, and Huggies are fine for my son, ended up costing £2.99, this is the big double carry pack that normally costs nearly £10. I used to spend something like £30-£40 a month on nappies, now I spend between £6 and £10. We are not on the highest income and struggle ourselves but its all about being sensible and clever with money and special offers. Buying value ranges is a part of this but it isn't always the be all and end all xx

Just checked and the tesco value nappies are 7p each or 10p each depending on size, not that cheap IMHO, I never pay more than 10p a nappy and have paid as little as 4p a nappy on occasion. Same with baby wipes I got a 4 pack of simple wipes for £2 recently and they are very thick and the pack lasts for ages while I have bought value range packs in the past more often than not there is some crazy offer on branded or normal own brand wipes that works out cheaper. Nappy sacks I always buy the value ones though as there is no benefit in buying the pricey ones xx

I agree that you can get good offers on huggies and pampers but I now refuse to use them. Made that mostake in that brought 2 boxes of superdry on offer and had to take them back! Absolute shite. Lol. I love little angels. I also dont get chance to find offers etc on nappies as I shop online a lot as we dont drive.

As per wipes I used to use boots own as get 10% professional discount also but asda sp for 51p are fab. Except when have seen little angels box of 6 packs for 4 pound I think. You do get more wipes per pack in the smart price ones though. Lol.

Omg 20 a day?!

I refuse to spend money on huggies and pampers but of they are free :D

I LOVED huggies newborn when lo was born but after that they were nightmare!

And the point is, any nappy used every day, brings the possibility of nappy rash. Nappy rash was a given when I was a baby too - and we all had re-usable nappies.

Yep 20 a day, all my boys have been really heavy wetters and I found the simply dry the stuffing part bunched up all over the place and they would rip open really easily and gel and fluff would be everywhere. Thankfully I've had no problems with the Huggies superdry maybe they are better for boys? In fact I found them so absorbent that I worried he wasn't weeing enough, then I found a stray pampers baby dry in the cupboard and that got soaked through much more quickly. I love little angels but we don't live anywhere near any decent ASDA and they don't deliver to our development. It depends on what size you use etc but little angels when on offer a lot of them do work out around 10p each so may as well get them as they are no more expensive than the value ones xx

We have switched from pampers to little angels active nappies through the day. They are fab!! We still use pampers baby dry at night as i dont know how the little angels active would fare through the night. When pampers run out i'm going to try little angels comfort through the night x

I've just switched to little angles from pampers this last month. Was using comfort dry and they are fab, bought a pack of active dry to try and they are great in day but leaked everynight. So gone back to just using comfort dry. Might be different with your LO though. X

I use lottle angels comfort dry all the time and had no issues and my lo gets heavy nappies pretty quicksometimes cause she wees so much!!

It's funny - I swear by Sim[ly Dry (the Pampers orange packets). They fit Earl and now Eddy brilliantly, and at £10 for a big box of 74 I cannot fault the price either (plus I've normally got at least 1 voucher in my purse lol). My main problem is that Eddy, and Earl when he was a baby, is big for his age, and the supermarket own ones and huggies too are really bulkier than the pampers. Eddy find it difficult to do anything when wearing anything but pampers, but I refure to pay the prices for the baby-dry/active fit. He's moving up to a size5 now, so I'll have to go back to another brand when he moves up again, but for now I love the Orange ones. I did have a few leaks with Earl, who was a particularly heavy wetter, but Eddy isn't and one of them will last all night no problem. I would say I use 5-6 a day so it's not too expensive, and those big boxes last me 2-3 weeks

On the OPs topic I bought them once when we were really strapped for cash and they worked, but I would only buy them as an emergency measure or if budget dictated it. They didn't leak but they were just as others have described, plastic, sticky tabs etc, so they were less 'user-friendly' lol. I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again in those circumstances though - they did the job so can't complain.

Thanks. Definitely going to give them a go. Little angels active fit ones have been fab through the day!! LO had a stomach bug all week so has had very loose poo's and the little angels contained them all. The clothes we had on with pampers didnt fare so well, lol. We'll be sticking with little angels for the time being and trying their comfort dry too x
