At my wits end - early morning waking, please help?!

How are you getting in Dianna..?
The later bedtimes were working well for a while (with an extra nap in the afternoon), but we are now starting to revert back to the early wakings again :-( . Plus he's been getting really grouchy for the 2 hours after that last nap until bedtime, like he's tired.

I'm going to try putting him down at his old 6.30om bedtime tonight and see what happens. It seems silly to keep keeping him up later and having a horrible last 2 hours of the day with him if the end result is the same.

Obviously if he starts waking even earlier again then I'm all for it though, haha!

Some nights are worse than others. We went back to sleep training a week after the inlaws left when feeding and rocking to sleep stopped working yet again.

He has been falling asleep in under 15 minutes but last night didn't go
well after his first waking. When he wakes he's not really interested in the bottle but takes it anyway. He woke at 1:00, 4:30 and I started the day at 5. It is
possible that he has some teeth coming. His gums are showing signs.

His naps are shorter than they
used to be as well which probably isn't helping his night sleep. We only do 2 naps. My baby has to be exhausted and fed before I can rock him to sleep for a nap. How many naps are you doing?

I hope your old bedtime doesn't result in earlier wake ups. I am debating moving mine from 7 to 6:30

It sounds like a developmental phase. I wonder if it also could have been triggered/worsened by you going back to work and doing inconsistent shifts. He may just be feeling a bit insecure and wanting to reassure himself that he isn't being left alone.

Later bedtimes and less overall sleep always made my LO wake earlier. If he's learning something new it may be keeping him awake and making him overtired so I say increase the opportunities for sleep at other times if you can.

Could you make a deal that on days when you do the 2am shift your partner gets up with him at 5am?
