On August 15th, I had an update appointment from all the testing for preclampsia I had done. My OB/GYN decided it would be best to induce me either on the 15th or 16th. We went with the 15th. I was taken into an LDR room with my fiance and they started me up with the Pitocin, Cytotec, and IV fluids. The contractions were all felt in my back. I did take the Epidural, but it's actually something about the experience I wish I hadn't done. The anesthesiologist was creepy and rude. I have never cried so much in my life. Getting the Epidural HURT and at the end of the day, it didn't help with the pain! I tried telling a different anesthesiologist about it and he was also rude and creepy. They kept thinking I was asking for more of the Epidural even though I was actually trying to get them to stop it or give me something different because the pain was still sharp, not pressure. The OB who delivered me told me I wasn't making any sense. Apparently, he's been on A Baby Story. He was actually kind of rude all around. In any case, I progressed over the night. My fiance held my hand for every contraction I felt and told me I could wake him up even if all I wanted was just to talk to him. They did give me something, I can't remember what it was for, that did make me a little...dingy. Lol! Anyway, I went from just barely dilated, to 4cm, to 8cm when I started feeling the urge to push on the 17th. The nurses that surrounded me and the OB/GYN that delivered me were definitely pissing me off so it helped with the pushing! They all kept saying, "That's right, get mad.", as my fiance was holding my hand. One of the nurses grabbed my hand pretty hard and I let go and told her not to grab my hand like that. She just grabbed my hand back! I only pushed for an hour, according to a nurse who spoke with my fiance. The look on my fiance's face will be a moment I remember for the rest of my life. He gasped, his eyes got big, he held his heart, and then my hand, and was the happiest I'd ever seen him and when he grabbed my hand, he said, "That's our baby boy." He was born at 9lbs, 9oz at 1:11pm. When the doctors announced the time, both my fiance and I were surprised. The doctors asked us why. Our anniversary is 5/11/11, the first hotel room we got together was 111, the first bus we took together was 1111. :) At his first bath, Atlas peed on the wall. The look on Atlas's face when he was born is another I won't forget. It was as if he was just as curious to see what I looked like the whole 9 months. He calmed down when handed to me, but freaked out when they took him for his first bath. I did have to get stitches because I did tear. The OB asked me if it hurt and I told him not after labor! The OB also exclaimed, "That ain't no preeclamptic baby!" after he delivered Atlas. Everyone kept telling me he had my dark hair to calm me down during labor too because my fiance were talking about what color hair he would have.

We were taken to a nicer room to spend the night for recovery. Nurses would come in and out to check on both Atlas and me. They were very accommodating of my want to breastfeed. However, things got a bit hairy. I was asked if I would like to go home the next day and I said yes, but then later in the day, an OB told me he didn't think it was a good idea. So, I didn't. Well, my fiance went home to pick up a few things for Atlas and me. While he was gone, Atlas got sick. He started crying heavily. I tried breastfeeding, checked his diaper, all of it. The nurses came in and did the same. It turns out he was breathing way too heavy so he was taken to the nursery and then from there, the NICU. :( We were then taken to another room. He had an upper repository infection, heavy breathing, and jaundice. Being in the NICU was horrible. Atlas fought them with getting the IV in his hand so they put it in his head. :( He was put in an incubator and put under a UV light and given this little EyeMax thing to cover his eyes. I had a hard time not breaking down. We stayed up there until Thursday. Our doctor told us that he could stay but not in the NICU. His upper respiratory infection was gone, his jaundice levels had gone down, but his breathing level was still high. We could be put in a nicer room and he could stay with us and have the nurses check on us or we could bring him home. Originally, we leaned toward staying, but after awhile, we decided to just bring him home. He has a pediatric appointment tomorrow and we're hoping to get more answers. We had one really cool NICU nurse, but there was a few who got a little too touchy-feely during my breastfeeding sessions and one of the last ones we had got both my fiance and I worried about how she was holding Atlas. Not to mention she called our NICU hospitality room and told us we needed to come in because "There's just no satisfying him." in regards to Atlas. Well, anyways... apparently, despite all this, we named him perfectly. He is really strong. According to another girl in the NICU whose son was in there too, Atlas almost rolled over on his own when we were gone. He also will stand on his feet in your lap a little bit. Anyway, here's Atlas Reverie. <3

Congratulations on the arrival of your baby boy!

His first appointment went great. The doctor said this is common in newborns and he is basically just learning to breathe. He's down from his birth weight, which you guys know is normal, but he's up from his NICU weight! :) He is going to get another weight check tomorrow. :)

Congrats! He's adorable! :flower:

Really glad he's doing well after his NICU stay & that he's up from his NICU weight!

Congratulations on your new arrival! Handsome little boy. :hugs:
