Azoospermia

Hi all

My husband has been diagnosed with azoospermia a while ago. I wonder if anybody who has similar experiences can please share them. We have had testing done on the NHS and have now been told this is as far as it can go. There is no funding for assisted conception with the NHS in my area. This is not due to us having previous children, etc. There is simply no funding.

My husband has to have a chromosome check done which takes up to 2 months. After this we will be private. My understanding is that they will try and do a retrieval operation on my husband and if they do find anything then they can use this for IVF with ICSI. If not, we would need to do IUI with a sperm donor.

As we have not actually seen a consultant at the private clinic yet I wonder if anyone can share a similar story. We cannot see a consultant until all results have been returned to us. It is looking like this will be mid-October!

Hi my husband has the same. This thread is very helpfu. Not as active but many of us have success stories either through dh sperm or donor.

Thanks

I did see that post and read through a few pages but was hoping to actually be able to discuss with someone. It seems that the whole issue is treated as tabboo. We musn't talk about it. I feel very alone and have nobody to talk to who has some kind of understanding of how I feel.

Feel free to reach out to me anytime.

Hi rebeccabo, sorry about the diagnosis 😕. For us (in Australia) the specialists did a mtese surgery to extract sperm. It depends on what is causing the azoospermia to what options you will have. My fingers r crossed for you xx

My husband had azoospermia for two years after clomid had basically done the same as TRT would have and shut down his testicles, we put him on HCG injections 2000iu 2x a week and tamoxifen 20mg a day and now 4 months later he is producing 20 million per mil with 80% motility, and im hoping for a BFP soon. Not sure if this information can help your situation but it does not hurt to try and see if this combo works for your DH ,whether or not it helps really depends on what is preventing the sperm production.

My husband was also diagnosed with azoospermia last year. He went through the biopsy to see if there was anything we could retrieve for IVF - there was nothing. All his tubes are connected so its really a mystery. We also had a blood test to see if they could find out the reason and it was inconclusive. It has been as hard road for both of us. We have gone the route of using a known donor (long story on who it is) We have done home insemination 6 times. If this last time didnt work - we are looking at IUI with a sperm donor from a bank, Unfortunately, in Canada health Canada has very strict and expensive procedures to do IUI/IVF with a known donor. Very annoying for us as we really are most comfortable with the known donor and not an the sperm bank donor. I am here also if you ever want to chat.

Hi. My husband has azoospermia due to kleinfelters syndrome. We were told back in 2012, after his diagnosis, that the NHS could do nothing more for us. We went to a private clinic and fell pregnant with our son (now 4) on our second attempt at diui. We have been trying for another with diui for over two years now unsuccessfully and hopefully this week we start our first round of ivf with icsi. I'm very excited but also quite scared. Any help or advice please feel free to message me x

I'm so sorry to hear that you are going through this. I was searching similar threads in a forum just one year ago. My partner was diagnosed last November after an unsuccessful testicular biopsy. At first it turned our world upside down but we did come round to the situation quickly. We knew we wanted to build a family in whatever way possible and so we started treatment with a sperm donor.

I find it so disheartening that you are unable to have any treatment whatsoever with the NHS. Our allowance was small in our area, but we were entitled to a few rounds of IUI. If you are healthy and showing no worries then I would highly recommend it, as it worked for us 2nd time and is cheaper and less invasive than IVF (cheaper unless you end up having many cycles)

I think one very important thing to do is to access some sort of counselling / very supportive family network and talk lots. It is such a hard time and I see that you posted this a while back but it will continue to be a stressful time. I am currently 19 weeks pregnant and the anxieties that come with using donor sperm have not gone away even though we have successfully conceived. It opens a whole new can of emotional worms, but we have talked enough and supported each other enough to know that this is life now and this is what we want.

If you, or anyone else reading this, wants to talk any time, please just get in contact on here. I am happy to talk at any time!

Good luck in your journey and I hope you get to build a family some time soon, whichever route you go down x

A friend of my sis was in the same situation. I don't know much, but they underwent IVF with ICSI at Polish IVF clinic In**cta cos of more affordable price.
