I went to the doctor yesterday and she said that the babies heart rate was 160bpm and when I called my mom to tell her how the appt went she said "Oh your having a girl!" Is there any truth to the heart rate being higher with girls and lower with boys? I kinda hope there is because the closer I get to finding out the gender the more I want a girl!

No scientific data backing this up.
My baby's HBs were: 153, 138, 144, 146, 148

Girl? Boy?

Started a thread about that not long ago. You can check it out here: https://www.babyandbump.com/showthread.php?t=13954

Its just an old wives tale hon, they've found no connection between the heartrate and gender. I do think it holds up when you're in labor though. I'm pretty sure someone has said this in a post. Apparently if its still high during labor its a girl and if its low its a boy.
With my son it was high at first, 140+ but later on it dropped to below 140 and with this pregnancy its been high throughout but I don't know what I'm having. I'll let you know if it holds out for me when I get my next U/S.

I think the heartrate/gender thread I read not that long ago is in Pregnancy Club.

I dont have a clue, but i have made a comment because i love the picture

Angels heart beat was always in the 140 range. About 148.

I was looking at a study done a few weeks back to see if it was true and there was no correlation between the heart rate and gender. At least you find out soon though!

There is no truth in the heart rate thing, it is another myth :(

But one thing I did notice was with my little girl her heartbeat sounded like a horse and with my little boy, his sounded like a train.......but again, I think coinsidence! ;)

Coltons was 180, 167, then 149. They say if its above 140 then it's a girl.. apparently not. :hissy:

That theory is a load of you know what...

Yes,

My mother who was an OB nurse in the late 70's and early 80's has always said the heart tones during labor deviate more and more as labor progresses depending on if one is having a girl or boy. Boy heart tones begin to drop significantly as labor progresses, girls stay the same or go up. But as the following quote notes, but then it's kind of a moot point... you'll see your baby in a couple hours anyway :)

:dohh:

"Interestingly enough, a study published this year in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology found that there is a difference in the heart rates of male and female fetuses during labor only. Scientists found that female fetuses had "significantly faster" heart rates than male fetuses after the onset of labor. It goes without saying that gender prognostications are fairly beside the point by the time birth is underway."

I was just wondering what everyone thought about that wifestale. I guess its completely wrong! I have my ultrasound on wednesday so I guess I will just wait and see what our baby is til then, Im just so excited that its so close!!

Thanks for all your opinions:)
