Any tips on how to clear up baby acne. He is only 24hrs old but he is covered most on face but also back arms and legs. He was discharged after 6 hours and then it started appearing, should i take him to the doctor or will it clear itself.

Hmm, I would actually probably get that checked out. Baby acne usually doesn't start until about 2-3 weeks after birth as your hormones start to clear out of his body. It would be unlikely to happen at just a day old and it's usually mostly on the face and not anywhere else. They can sometimes get a bacterial infection that comes up as little whitehead like spots, which isn't baby acne but might look similar, which might be something that needs treating. Do you have a midwife coming to see you? If so, I would ask her to have a look at it? If not, yes, I might be inclined to let a doctor take a look at it as it could be a rash or infection of some sort.

Agree with pp that it's a bit early for baby acne it sounds more like erythema toxicum (have a Google for pictures it's harmless and goes away quite quickly) but I would definitely ask your midwife to have a look and check if baby's only 24hrs old to make sure it's nothing else.

It is possible for a newborn rash/baby acne to appear that soon because it did with my son, but if you haven't already talk to your Dr for peace of mind. My son was born and shortly after developed some on his nose, and then after about a week it got worse (cheeks, forehead and chin), now it is finally starting to get better and disappear at almost 4 weeks. Several doctors and nurses confirmed that it was nothing to be concerned about and to just leave it be. I kept asking because I was bothered by it and wondered if it was something more...but I was repeatedly told it was totally normal and caused by hormones.

My DD had this starting at 5 weeks and now at 8 weeks it has pretty much gone. My DS also had it and the time scale was exactly the same with him.

My midwife has been in and said it is a newborn rash (like a ln allergic reaction) hence the reason his back arms and legs are covered. His face is a bit better today. She said it could go away in 48 hours or he might have it for months.
