Hi,

So the last week I have noticed that my belly is hanging really low.

Went for an appointment at my ob/gyn this morning and she said the baby is head down and very low already. She did say it does not mean he will come any earlier however I thought I should ask around if anyone had their baby move down into position for birth at 31 weeks but only gave birth around 39/40 weeks?

Just curious. Cant wait for him to come but not at 31 weeks! :haha:

Baby's head can be down but that doesnt indicate anything about going into labor. My 2 babies were head down from 25 weeks however only engaged into my pelvis after 38 weeks and didnt deliver my dd until 42 and currently 40 with the second one.

I had baby head down and engaged by 34 weeks. Doc's words were similar to yours of "She's WAAAAY down there". Pretty sure she barely could touch munchkin's head before her second knuckle.

I asked if that meant something would be happening soon, and she said it really doesn't. First babies tend to drop sooner, but all babies can drop in the third trimester. She said you can still go weeks and weeks without anything happening, just like some woman drop only when they're in labor. Apparently some babies just like to get in position and ready to roll well in advance!

Thanks ladies. This is my second baby so maybe he has just decided to snuggle in down there.

He has been head down most of my the 2nd and 3rd trimester anyways, its just that he moved noticeably lower now than before.

My first was head down from 25 weeks but I was induced early so didn't engage till labour started. This one didn't go head down till 33 weeks in now 36 weeks. Feel like baby has dropped abit and could be getting ready to engage already. Won't know till I see the consultant next week. Just cause they get into position doesn't mean they are going to come any sooner than they should. These babies sure know how to keep us on our toes.

Plus second or more babies have a pesky habit of moving around, up & down etc right up until labour just to keep you on your toes!

My little girl engaged pretty early on, but never came and I had to be induced at 41 weeks! So, engaging definitely doesn't mean labor soon.

I haven't given birth yet, but I am 37 weeks. My baby's head was down and dropped around 28-ish weeks. She flipped a couple times since then, so I wouldn't worry.
