Hi ladies,

This is a one off thing and I've never taken baby aspirin before nor will I take it again while breastfeeding. I was experiencing arrythmias more than usual the last 2-3 days, and attributed it to a supplement that I had been taking (that was suggested by my doctor). Last night my blood pressure dropped to 86/66 and today my heart beat was very irregular. I called my doctor who suggested I take a baby aspirin. I asked her about breastfeeding and she said that one shouldn't do any harm, but that I can supplement with formula for 6 hours after taking the medicine if I was worried.

So.. my little man is a booby fiend. Two hours after taking it, he got REALLY fussy and was inconsolable. My husband came home to help me, but he just wouldn't settle and refused the formula. I ended up caving in and fed him, and he's now asleep (phew). I'm terrified that the baby aspirin may have hurt him though. I read a lot of conflicting opinions online, and conflicting opinions from health care professionals.

Is there anything I should watch out for? Has anyone taken a 'baby' aspirin (81mg) before while breastfeeding? I'm really worried and watching him like a hawk now. :(

I heard that "large doses" are not safe, but you only took the smallest dose. I don't believe you could have harmed your baby.
I took baby aspirin through all my pregnancy due to gestational diabetes, and this was considered very safe (there are some studies), however bf is apparently a different thing... maybe your LO has an individual reaction to this drug.

75mg of aspirin is fine during breadtfeeding. I breastfed my first daughter and since being diagnosed with a blood clotting disorder, I have researched extensively to determine the risks of anti-coagulants and breastfeeding as I fully intend to feed my second. My haematologist has also confirmed that small doses is fine. Where aspirin is concerned, it becomes a "risksy" if you exceed 150mg of aspirin, small doses are not passed on.

Just to add, I'm currently taking aspirin and fragmin whilst pregnant. Both will be continued 6 weeks post partum, so during breastfeeding. You don't need to worry :) xx
