i'm very confused about baby bedding and sleeping arrangements etc.

i have a moses basket but it's empty and has no bedding.. just the mattress and a fitted sheet. what bedding do I need to buy to go in it? Do i just put baby under a blanket in it? i've seen these 'swaddle' things in John Lewis which look nice, would one of them be a substitute for a blanket?

I also have 2 baby sleeping bags 0-6 months, can newborn babies go straight into sleeping in these or not? They're also a 2.5 tog which I'm not really sure what that means?

Any advice appreciated! xx

tog rating like duvets, no idea what it means but the higher the tog the warmer baby will be i've been told sleeping bags are the best bedding for a baby because they cant push it over their head all my friend who have babies have told me theyre great :)

I don't know myself lol. I assume in a moses basket it will have a sheet then just use blankets.

I'm also gonna be using a sleeping bag in the cot so baby won't be able to get it over their face. I asked my Mum would 2.5 be enough and she seemed to think it was, as lots of little layers were better than a big one. Like vest, baby grow, cardigan maybe, hat and stuff then the sleeping bag.

When Ava was in a moses basket we just put a blanket over her. She was only in there for 2/3 weeks, then we started co-sleeping, we used to wrap her in a blanket then too.

Most moses baskets come with bedding but if not you can get sets like this one

Sleeping bags are great, Cadence's have a popper underneath the arms to make it more suitable for a newborn, then when they're bigger you don't need to fasten it.

2.5 tog are more for winter, then when it's summer you change to a 1 tog. The numbers mean thickness. It's all so confusing isn't it :dohh:

ETA: My LO hated her moses basket so we only used it a couple of times but she would have outgrown it very quick.

Is a moses basket a bassinet? We never had one but used a cutely designed bumper set for her crib.. It comes with crib bumper, sheet and blanjet. If you just use sleep suits, there is really no need for blankets.. The swaddle things are nice though :)

we have fitted sheet to mattress and then one pram sheet over him and then a blanket he will have too

them sleeping bags my midwife at antenatal advised putting them in them until atleast 3-6 months it isnt good for newborn because they can get over heated and can hardley move around

but its individual needs

Tori's bassinet just had a fitted sheet and we would swaddle her and put her in it. :flower:

^ Same for us... LO decided around two weeks old, though, that she hated being swaddled. We just started putting her in the sleeper gowns (like a suit, but her feet are able to get out). At 4 weeks she got colic, and we started co-sleeping. Now she has a light receiving blanket that we put across her legs. They tell you not to give LO's blankets or pillows, but LO is fine with her receiving blanket, and she's right next to me.

It just depends on what you want to do. If you want to use a sleeper in her basket, that'd be fine. Every parent & baby are different, so we all do different things for our LOs.

Tori wasn't big on swaddling either. She has a sleep sack that she's used since she was born basically. When we co-slept she would be in her sleep sack and I would tuck our comforter around me like a sleeping bag and put Tori in the nook of my arm.

I've got a bassinet and cot. So during the day she will probably nap in the bassinet and at night its the cot.
