Baby born with a scar on her head?

My baby was born on Saturday. She came out quite gunky so it's only today that we've managed to wash it all out of her hair and I've noticed this!

What is it? Has anyone else had a baby with similar scarring? Is it something she's done to herself in the womb or should I be concerned?

Midwife is due on Thursday so will check with her also... Just hope one of u girls can help before hand?

First time I have seen anything like it. Definately ask about it. Did she need any help in the delivery?

Nope. No assistance. I didnt tear either! It looks like its well healed, rather than newly inflicted. Odd isn't it? Isn't inflamed or sore to touch.

I hope so... It's not hurting her so I don't want to ring like some crazy mum... But would still like to hear someone say "oh it's fine. Mine had that" lol

Thanks! Will do! I've tried googling and that just comes up with born with open scalp wound, and it's definitely not that! Guess i'll find out Thursday... Fingers x it's nothing!

My LO was born with a scar on his head. The heart rate monitor wasnt working well on my tummy so they had to put one on his head through my cervix. Did the same thing happen to you?

It took me awhile to figure it out

No. I did with my son and that took his skin off, but not on this baby.

I was going to suggest the monitor too as Gabriella has to have that and was born with a scab in her head from it. Did you have a sweep? Could it have been a too long fingernail perhaps? Sorry clutching at straws a bit here.

My good friends dd was born with the exact same thing on her head. The GP referred her to a dermatologist to get it look at and they said it was a birthmark they have left it and it hasn't grown with her head so they will review every 6 months. Hope this helps

did they have to break your waters? I am asking because my daughter was born with a scratch on her head and the doc told me it was probably caused by the instrumentused to break my waters

I would guess birthmark as well.

I was going to say it looks like a birthmark or mole of some sort. Let us know what the midwife says

My cousin was born with a large raw patch on his head, much worse than what your daughter has. No reason for it either. It's still baod there and he's almost 3, but it's shrunk a bit in the last year.

Yea hers isn't raw... It's like an old wound? Guess its either a birth mark or I suppose its possible she scratched herself maybe? Guess I'll find out tomoro and will update! Thanks for your help all

Morning girls. Midwife has just left. She thinks baby has just scratched her head at some point and as its not red, sore, inflamed or open, she doesn't think it's anything to worry about and just keep an eye on it. That's a relief

Hmm, in the pic it looks a bit like cradle cap lol. Never heard of babies being born with scars, how odd. Good that midwife isn't worried about it though x
