Hi all
We recently had a liuttle boy 3 days today - my wife has been breast feeding to date but wants to go over to bottle as she is struggling with the breast feeding, the LO is not getting what he needs it would appear. We have a steriliser which keeps bottles sterile for 6 hrs when used, my question is can we sterilise the bottles in the AM for the day, take them out the sterliser put the boiling water in them and just leave them on the side, this way they stay sterile I assume and sit on side at room temp, and we would just add the milk powder when he needs a feed and warm the bottle if required? I have heard so many stories I dont know what to believe, any honest answers would be appreciated, many thanks

firstly congrats on ur baby.

i sterilise my bottles in the morning (usually have 4 left from nite shifts). i make up 4 fresh bottles, formula included and leave to cool down and then store in the fridge. i do the same in the evening for the night shift. i never leave them for more than 24 hrs in the fridge (well main reason is i dont have enough bottles lol)

everyone does it differently. i had no intention of making fresh bottles at 2am with a screaming baby as they say to do on the box of formula

How do you know the baby isn't getting what it needs??

I felt like this in the beginning too...would cry many many nights over it. It's normal for your baby to feed all day long for the first 6-8 weeks. The more they eat, the better it is for your wife because it will build up her milk supply. By supplementing with formula etc it tells her body that the baby doesn't need milk during that time...

The ALL day feedings get better after 6 weeks. The baby goes through many growth spurts where they "cluster feed."

If she really wants to BF, tell her to hang in there. She needs a LOT of support with this as it's definately hard. But she can do it. I was ready to give up myself plenty of times...but I kept with it and the bond I feel is amazing.

Yes I do this... sterilize all the bottles, add boiling water, leave them on the side untill LO wants one :) They are ok for 24 hours!

Been doing it like that for 3 weeks and everythings fine xx

I do the same as Stephx, no problems here either :)

just want to point out that breastfed babies do eat more often, can be up to 20 times a day they want on the breast. Everything baby needs is in breast milk. Sorry I havnt no experience on bottles to offer though.
