Went to get baby weighed earlier and the lady said so how are you feeding I told her I expressed and she asked how much he eats which is around 40 oz a day at 19 weeks her reply was ooh I don't think your milk is doing enough your only 21! you will probably need formula don't you give him formula! Anyway she weighed him and was like 17.9 perfect what the hell was that all about how could she say something like that before she's even weighed him! Lucky I'm not a panicky person! But that got me s bit worried unnecessary really! Some people! And what has age got to do with my milk stupid women x x

That's ridiculous and tbh I would be complaining about her! Age has nothing to do with breastmilk quality! And if you are dedicated enough to express she should be giving you extra encouragement, not telling you what you are doing isn't enough, stupid stupid woman!!!!

This is absurd!! :growlmad:

I agree - I'd complain - as Hannah says - your age has nothing to do with the quality or quantity of your breastmilk!!

You're doing great! Carry on as you are :hugs:

What a stupid woman.. Age has nothing to do with it, thats ridiculous.

I agree with PP I'd complain, If she says things like that to other women, It'd only take one comment for people to start doubting themselves.

xxx

I no right! The more I think about it the more angry I am! How would I go about complainin? And I go to clinic every month so she would surely be funny with me. Support is what I need not patronizing comments like that! Just thinking about how many women have given formula because of her comments and ideas. Also can breatmilk actually be of poor quality? X

Its very very rare for breastmilk to be of poor quality-ie not enough calories etc, any anyway a HV is not qualified to diagnose this especially not just by your age or looking at you, I was 22 when I had my first and I got the same type of stupid comments. I'm not sure how you'd go about complaining, perhaps to the local health authority as they will most likely be in charge of the health visitor service? They won't tell her it was you but just that they have received a complaint; and hopefully will send this woman for some up to date training. xx

I think you should notify her supervisor as that is negligent advice to be giving.

Thank-you ill look into it made me feel like a silly little girl for a moment but I loved her expression when she read the scales lol x.

If you have a receptionist at the Baby Clinic, you can explain your situation, tell her that you want to make a formal complaint, and ask for a copy of complaints procedure or ask her who you need to speak to.

Don't worry about the akwardness as you can make the complaint anonymously. In any case, even if she knows it was you, you're not making a complaint out of malice, but rather because you care about the wellbeing of other moms and babies.

Thank-you for that I've never been the type to complain but this means a lot to me ill be doin that tomo x

That's awful. I read something about how there might me supply issues for young mums, but when they said young, they mean, under 14/15, apparently. And not in that many cases.
I was 22 when I had Bethan, so I understand where your coming from; our HV told us to FF her due to "poor" weight gain. Didn't, obviously... Rubbish advice.

To be honest, if it was me, I'd put in a complaint. Not only did she give wrong advice, she made you feel bad, when your doing something brilliant by breastfeeding.

:growl:

let is know how your complaint goes, definitely mention the fact you're pretty much EE and so this is even more unfair and discouraging for you, as well xx
