baby has 'frog legs' when on back

I never really thought anything of this till I saw my HV last week, but when I was getting Alice dressed after her weigh in, she said she lies like a little froggy.

I didn't really think to ask if that was a problem and she didn't tell me to see a doctor or anything. Is this normal at over 3 months? She has rolled from her front to back and tries to stand up on her legs. In tummy time she pulls her legs underneath like she's trying to crawl.

What I mean by lying like a frog is that when she's on her back, her legs are up and the knees drop to the side.

I am going to ask on Thursday when I see her again but I can't stop thinking about it now.

I find them adorable, your HV probably does too which is probably why she commented it.

But then again, there are babies with hip issues so it doesn't hurt to have it checked out.

I'd say it's pretty normal? I'm sure the HV would've said if it were cause for concern & they check out the hips at the 8 week checkup.

My lo is 5 months and still does it, I think it's because she's used to doing it when having her nappy changed lol! She looks cute tho I think x

It's normal and very good for babies hips, if there was a problem with their hips it's unlikely that they would be able to do it xx

Robyn has immature hips and never or rarely frogs her legs on her own. Her natural position is with knees together. But as her hips mature she does froggy a little more. It's one of the things that they check at the hip clinic- whether they can froggy or not. And to help her development she's in cloth nappies to encourage the froggy position.

My LO was like this. She was breech so she was extremely froggy like in the beginning. She's still super bendy at 17 months.

As previous poster said my Evie had "frog legs" for ages in the NICU the nurses asked whether she was breech at some point. She's outgrown it now, but it did worry me at the beginning.
