Holly likes to stand up while we hold her under her arms, and she will stand up holding onto the coffee table if we stand her up there. But I've noticed that she is always on her tiptoes, I don't think I've seen her on flat feet yet. On photos I've seen of other babies standing up supported they're always flat on their feet. I'm starting to worry that we might have over-used the baby walker and this has caused her to be on her tiptoes all the time? :(

Its not likely to be a problem yet but def' keep an eye on it, a girl I knew growing up had problems with her muscle and tendon development in her calves and ankles because she was always on tip toe when she was younger, mind you she was 8 yrs old when they realized how bad it had gotten

Most physios say to avoid baby walkers. Especially the ones where they can't see there feet. Jumperoos can cause the same problem for tip toe walking. We avoided all those and ds still walks on his toes! Doh::
I spoke to the Hv and she said that the drs won't do anything until 2.5 years!
Try getting your lo to walk on different textures barefoot eg carpet, Laminate, foil etc ...

I'm really worried! :( I just hope that by the time she starts walking she will be on her feet rather than toes

Not to worry you, as I don't knwo how long it went on before it became a problem, but one of my cousins did this severely and had to have, I think, casts on to rectify it. I'll check with my mum exactly what happened because I would have been too young to remember

My little guy does, and we think it from being in his jumperoo. but now he trying to crawl he dosent like his jumperoo much so hoping it will sort it self out soon. are LO are stil quite young i think if he still doing it when he 10/11 months il worry.

Really debated whether or not to post this but decided to. I think it's probably way too early to worry about this yet but my nephew did this from a very young age and when he was diagnosed with autism my sister was told that walking on tip toes was a common sign of autism. Like I say it's probably too early to worry about this in your LO but it was one of the early signs that was missed in my nephew because we had never heard of it xx

My youngest brother always walked on his tip toes and he has autism. You could tell with him from a very young age though, LO doesn't seem to have any more signs apart from the tip toes. We were trying to put her feet flat on the floor but she resists it strongly :(

My son was like this and still at 8 years old has a tendancy to walk on his tip toes sometimes. It's gotten a lot less in the last few years, but I still see him doing it sometimes when he's in the house with no shoes on. My brother was like that too. Neither one has any problem what so ever.

EDT: Just saw the autism thing - me ds's pre-school teacher had him tested for autism just because he walked on his tip toes! He dopes NOT have autism, so even though it's a common thing that kids with autism do, it does not mean they have it. On the flip side my cousin's daughter does have autism and never walked on her tip toes. Just didn't want you to be worried about that if there are no other signs of it, tip toe walking alone doesn't mean anything.

My lo stood on his tiptoes, and would walk on them as well. It lasted about a month. He now stands flat footed, he's just started his first unaided steps in the last week and his feet are fine. I'd really try not to worry yet, I work in a nursery and its quite common for babies to walk on their toes for a while. I would avoid the walker for a while so your LO can get used to standing on flat feet, and if its still happening in a month or so just get it checked at the docs to make sure, but I'm sure it will be fine. X

Try not to worry! It's super normal in little ones still learning and can be until toddler years. Keep an eye on turn out of the foot-whether one foot is pointing forward and the other is off the the side. There may be some lop sided development, but very unlikely that it would be something she wouldn't grow out of with a little help. I feel like we all know somebody who knew somebody, but my niece was pigeon-toed. She walked very strangely, but about 3 months later it stopped out of nowhere. It's like walking just clicked for her that day.

That's good to know, thanks! :)

May i suggest massaging her legs every day? She might have strained muscles because of walker? Just take a bit of baby oil and massage her legs from toes to hips and then gently move her feet and massage again. Put her feet in correct flat position on a mat while she lays down (if its clear what im trying to say), massage toes and feet, move it again. Mine was stepping on the sides of his feet and after 3-4 massage sessions he started putting it flat the way it should be. Good luck hun

My LO does this too and we also blame the jumperoo. Whenever I notice I flatten his feet and he doesn't seem to mind.

He has started walking holding our hands and his feet seem to go down flat.

I wouldn't worry yet, just try to correct them whenever you can and give it a few months. Fingers crossed it will sort itself out:)

I'm not a doctor but I don't think it is a big deal at all. My son walks (when you hold his hands) on his tip toes and he is eight months. I just think it is partly because he has a baby door bouncer, partly because he has a baby walker (although he isnt actually in it much - not because I dont agree with it, but more because he whinges in it!) and mainly because he is a baby and he doesn't know how to walk yet. And he is learning the best way to do it. Maybe I am stupid and naive and my baby has autism, or cerebral palsy, or some condition that can only be corrected surgically. But I certainly don't plan to worry about it yet!

Jonathan started off tip toed too when he first started standing at about 6 months or so. At 9 months when he started walking his feet flattened out with no problems. Now he stands completly flat food and only get on his tippy toes to try to reach something you know lol I would just watch it. If it continues after he starts walking then you could get it looked at.

Thank you, I will try doing that :) She hasn't been in her baby walker for a few weeks as she learnt how to get out of it. I definitely won't be using anything like that again!

Alex used to walk on his tip toes at first. At his 12 month check up the health visitor said to limit his time in the walker, which we did. But think its a stage they go throu. Amex now walks flat footed so don't worry to much, just limit her walker time

I was reading something on google that said babies sometimes do stand on their tip toes at first when you hold them up as they find it easier to bounce this way. Hopefully it's nothing to worry about, especially as she's not standing or walking unaided yet, so I will try to stop worrying and googling stuff!

my lil man was barely in his jumperoo or his walker, and loves being on tiptoes!
please don't worry, there are lots of scary things which can be associated with it but its the exception, not the rule :)
my son is a big boy and i wonder why he does it as he must be so uncomfortable!
