Girls,

I really need some advice. I had IVF in May and was lucky enough to fall pregnant from it. Based on the dates the Clinic gave me, I should be 7 weeks and 4 days pregnant today. Last week I had my first (early) scan - I should have been 6 weeks and 5 days then but the scan only dated me at 6 weeks. I had a follow up scan yesterday when I should have been 7 weeks and 3 days but the scan only dated me 6 weeks and 4 days - this was 5 days after my last scan. There was a heartbeat which was measured at 117bpm which the sonographer said was fine, they like to see it over 100bpm.

Girls is this pregnancy doomed? Bear in mind I have little or no pregnancy symptoms - all I have is a bit of tiredness but my boobs are not sore at all nor have then been since day one. I am worried sick because last week I was off my dates by 5 days whereas based on yesterday's scan I am now off by 6 days. I have a very bad feeling.

Can anyone offer any advice?

Don't panic!! lol

My LO measured 6 days behind as well up until about 26 weeks, and since then she measured 4 weeks ahead, and as of this past week, she's measuring 3 weeks ahead...babies grow at different rates so as long as your Dr isn't worried you shouldn't be either.

*edit* and you could've also implanted a little later too, and you need to change your status to pregnant instead of TTC! Think positive hun!!

when the baby is still so small it is really hard to get an accurate measurement, its in millimetres so a teeeeeeeny tiny little bean.

with this pregnancy i had an early scan due to spotting and a previous miscarriage which measured 8 days behind, it worried me because my husband went away the day after i ovulated so there was no way that i wasnt as pregnant as i was supposed to be! Ive just been for another scan to check everything is still working and i was 10 weeks when i was supposed to be 10+2 (by my last period) so caught up 6 days

Hey hun, when your this early in pregnancy, its really hard to get the measurements, the best measurements they get is at ur 12 week scan xxxxxxxxxxx

Definite growth spurt issues - fact is, your baby is still growing, as shown on your scan reults. Some grow at different rates is all - within a week my bean went from an empty sac (bean so small as to be invisible) to a bean with heartbeat!

And I agree with the lady above - change your status. You are pregnant!!

All babies grow at different rates, I was behind on my scan too but they told me all babies are different and mine will probably catch up later on, so will yours! xxx

Hi Snowflake - please don't worry. I had IVF too, so was certain of my dates. I measured 6mm at my 7w2d scan, when usually it should be around 10mm. Bubs will soon catch up. I was so worried that I went for a private scan at 10w3d before my NHS one at 12w2d, and in both of these, bubs measured spot on.

I think when the bean's so small, it's sometimes difficult to get measurements spot on.

I had a lack of pregnancy symptoms too, so was why I went for private scan.

:hugs:

Girls,

Thanks so much for your replies.

While I can appreciate what you are all saying about it being hard to properly measure the baby at this early stage, the fact that I am dating more behind now than last week is very worrying and from research I have done online about the heartbeat, 117bpm is borderline for 6 weeks and 4 days. Since I got my BFP, it has been nothing but constant worry and I really can't handle much more of this now.

I'm really not sure what I can say to put your mind at rest. I can understand your worry, after all you've been through in the IVF process. I guess this is one of the situations where having all the information isn't so good and we can drive ourselves crazy with googling.

The earliest scan I had was at 7w2d, and my measurement was 6mm compared to usual 10mm. The fertility clinic didn't give me a heartrate either, just said that there was a heartbeat so all was fine.

Just a cut and paste from an ob/gyn website: At 6-8 weeks:

If this [heartbeat] is observed, the probability of a continued pregnancy is better than 95 percent. Missed abortions and blighted ovum will usually give typical pictures of a deformed gestational sac and absence of fetal poles or heart beat.

I know it's hard to, but try to relax, and step away from Google. I was reading my day to day pregnancy book this morning, and it mentioned that stress produced cortisol in mummy's blood which can affect foetal growth.

All the best. :hugs:

I've read on here situations where ladies have gone and measured small and been told to come back in a week's time for a rescan and then they did the baby had grown about 2 week's worth in that one week.

The fact a hb was present and it was above 100bpm I would try not to worry so much. You might find you are lucky and not really have any symptoms or they may just kick in later on. Try not to stress and put your feet up where possible and just take it easy!

Wishing you lots of luck.

x

Forgot to mention - at my 12 weeks scan the sonographer at the beginning said LO was 3 days behind my calculations but by the end of the scan LO had uncurled and she said I was exactly what I thought I was and that's not changed x

in my experience of early scans they only give an approx date/size etc. as they can't be accurate enough as someone else said they can't start to give you a more accurate date until 12 weeks, and besides which babies are all different some are big some are small try to relax and enjoy it you have seen a healthy heartbeat and bubs thats a very good thing! x
